blowing the bowl

Recommended Posts

Been to scotland for two weeks. I had forgotten my hookah (thought i could not smoke here in fact... dumb me)

So i've been to a hookah cafe every day (spent LOTS of money ) and the owner of the cafe was a Palestinian guy. He had nice hookahs with clay bowls.

Which reminded me of a well-spread technique in arabic countries : blowing the bowl by its bottom.

Why ?

1. After recoaling or having moved the coal, it gets out all that nasty-tasting coal ashes. It "refreshes" the massel

2. Maybe it would stick the massel to the foil, intentionnaly or not i don't know.

Which leads me to want a clay bowl again ! Because metal bowls get hot and it's difficult to do this technique.

Nakhla Double Apple was SO amazing here.... full licorice tasting.
i'm currently trying to get that heavenly smoke again right now, but it's too mild... Damn Nakhla Double Apple I believe the clay bowl might keep more heat IN the massel, but not conducting away the heat...

The palestinian did holes all over the foil, and we just had to put the
coal slightly on the sides, then move it to another side sometimes if
we wanted to refresh the test. And that nakhla could least almost 3
coals.

I saw him almost filling the bowl with nakhla. I realize nakhla needs
much much heat... Would have to restart learning how to prepare it from
the start

Oh well f**k i prefer Al Fakher anyway
Waiting for your replies, because i'm just going to write a book otherwise

Yeah I've had that done when I visited a lounge in Arizona.
I never understood why though, all I saw was a little ash fly.
When you think about it though, the most I can see happening is the
ma'asell loosening to accomodate airflow. However, the cake is usually
in one chunk anyway, so maybe it just lifts the cake up for the airflow.

OK I think I'm putting too much thought into this HAHA!!

I think this technique not only blow out the ashes but also stick the
massel to the foil in you blow enough. It's useful in the way that when
you have smoked the life out of your massel, you then stick it to the
foil then the massel situated at the bottom of the bowl comes nearer to
the charcoal. Hence the "refresh" effect.
