Anybody else interested? This really won;t work too well without 10 people or so...

I'm interested, although would it be useful to have someone who hasn't even tried to smoke Tangiers in over 3 years participate? I don't really know if I can't acclimate or not.

Eric, i can help out too(when i finally order someg) we've got some severe weather conditions to try and narrow down the issue. 100% humidity in the blistering sun for 19 hours a day. A desert a stond throw from the atlantic should make for some interesting results

1. I have never been able to get any Tangiers to Acclimate. (True/False)
I got a batch of OG Orange Soda to partially acclimate. Never got rich flavor from any bowl I packed but at least I could taste something.

2. I have tried different packing methods and none of them work. (T/F)
I've watched every Tangy packing video out there trying different packing densities, hole sizes & patterns, heat management, etc. Nothing.

3. Tangiers always smells burnt or like soy sauce. (T/F)
I've got some Tropical Revenge and Pineapple acclimating on the shelf at the moment. The Pineapple has an intense "tobacco" smell while the TR smells burnt.

4. I have tried leaving Tangiers out for extended periods of time, to no avail, it doesn't change at all. It still smells off. (T/F)
I've had what I've got out now sitting for a total of 8-10 weeks.

5. I have tried smoking it and it tastes bad. (T/F)
I've never had a good Tangy bowl. I've gotten decent smoke at times, but usually not. And the flavor has been either extremely weak or nonexistant every time I've tried.

One thing i'll point out is this, I recently got 250g of Schnozberry which I opened just the other day. Interestingly enough, it smelled pretty good right out of the bag. I let it acclimate overnight and packed a bowl the following day. It was an ok bowl. Decent smoke, decent flavor, but nothing to brag about. Since then, I've been letting it sit out at the lounge with my other two flavors. It has since lost all smell and flavor. I tried packing a bowl this past weekend and tasted nothing. I ended up throwing out the bowl after about 15 minutes of failed attempts.

Thanks for looking into this, Eric. I'm about ready to put OG Tangiers down for good. For all the trouble I have smoking it, I've never experienced anything remotely good enough to justify the hassle.

in the name of science, i'll try it, though i know its going to end in fail. I'm now certain that florida doesn't get along with tangiers. My buddy Keith ordered OG horchata, it doesn't smell anything like any horchata i've ever drank. Now i know its not just me. Its Florida.

when you have the almighty Eric behind you, you never know what could happen.

trust me i feel like it is going to end in fail too, i have spent over 150 on tangiers in the past, trying it over and over and over, so you aren't alone man.

I know several people in Florida that have no problems at all...thats the point, same place, strange, discordant results.

yep and i know people who live in RI, pretty damn close to MA (which is where i live) who have no acclimation issues, but i can't get majority of the flavors to acclimate ... it's very odd

oh and on a side note eric ... i smoke in my basement so that is where i acclimate my goods ... and we run a dehumidifier in the summer because it is so humid in MA in the summer if we dont, the basement grows mold ... my question to you is would a dehumidifer help or hurt the acclimation of tang? I would think help because it keeps it at a stable level ... the dehumidifier shuts off when it reaches a certain temp set by the user .. or .. rather ... me!

I would like to participate... I have tried a couple of bowls of Tangiers (Phunnel and Egyptian) with poor results... I live in GA and I dont believe I have had any problems with acclimating my friends and I let it sit until it smells right in our Plastic containers. I have repeatedly watched packing video after packing video with poor results. Havent had a good session yet. Tried different types of heat management as well 3 coco's, split coco's QL's everything just about it seems... Im more of a reader than a poster on here but I figure this could help me and my friends have the best possible smoking experience we can so I am willing to give any experiment a go if thats ok with you Eric? Im willing and ready to learn!! smile.gif

the thread is made for people who can't get tang to acclimate ... if i am not mistaken.

i believe what you said meant to read "I have NOT had any problems ... "

The problem is Im not sure If i have had any problems if that makes sense... When the stuff smells decent I smoke it which was once after 30 minutes with OG Bramble but it turned into a terrible session that ended after 15 minutes so Im not sure if I actually have or hadnt had problems with acclimation... Im still pretty new at Hookah in general, only been smoking about 4-5 months

This is a study for acclimation issues. Chaz, PM me and we'll see if we can get you straightened away fr the other issues.

Ilikemyusername: If you are convinced it'll fail...why try?

sjCrain: did you have problems acclimating or just smoking a good bowl?

Mattarios, Familiar Joe, Newjacksm, ih303, Doubon are on board...

this requires several answers,
1) I've spent too much money on tangiers and have never gotten a good bowl.
2)I'm always willing to try something new.
3)damnitt man, somethings GOT to be done!
4)I don't really have anything else going on right now.
5)I'm not really sure that it will fail, since you know people in fl. that smoke tang, maybe I fail.
6)nakhla doesn't make horchata.

I'd like to get in on this. I've had success with OG, but very very very limited success. I live in Calgary, Alberta, Canada - very dry here. To get the stuff to smell right takes days of acclimation alone, and even then its still got that burnt aspect to it. I've got quite a bit of Tangiers kicking around for it smile.gif

yeah eric, since we've been pm-ing i'm good to go with this ordeal. i guess i'll go pick up some OG horchata. or maybe white grape OR MAYBE BOTH. currently, i tossed out overything i have except pear and peach iced tea. actually, that's enough to experiment with until i can get some progress with this whole thing.

Eric I'll play... I have gotten tangiers to work but strangely only in the winter...

You have air conditioning is my guess. You have a radiant heating system or don;t use too much heat in the winter? in the winter, the humidity level is closer inside to that outside. It is also possible when it gets warm, you start smoking outside.

Am I close to right on any of this?

If you need someone else to participate I'd be more then willing, although I could partway answer false to the first question. Peach was able to acclimate(but it required no acclimation at all) I opened it and it was perfect. Every other flavor I've ever tried has had major issues.

Barely use the heat at all... I keep the house around 60... and I almost always smoke in my room in front of the computer...
