Acclimation Issues With Tangiers By Sonthert

462 posts in this topic
Hey, so we got Tangiers (blueberry, schnoz, watermelon) in May.
very, very weak flavour, no buzz whatsoever (which is a sure sign that something was wrong lol)
we were okay with heat management, but the flavour was not good.
it was acclimated for about 10 hour before the first smoke, but even weeks later it only improved slightly.

here's what i think the problem was, we're in Ontario,Canada, May is still very cool/cold and dry. We were thinking of ordering some more in August when the weather is actually hot and muggy here, do you think the hot weather will help?

thanks.

edit: it was regular tangiers line, not lucid or f-line Edited by mrt9089

I have gotten OG melon blend and OG K-Peach to work.

Brambleberry, Schnozzberry, Tropical Punch, Static Starlight, and a couple others i ordered would not acclimate.

95% of the time it smelt like either plastic or nothing.

I always acclimated them on tinfoil and stirred the shisha every 1-2 hours.

Also i noticed one day the shisha would look very dry, then the next day it would look soaked, next day dry, next day soaked. I think that has something to do with the humidity jumping from high to low and vice versa in my area each day.

Ive been attempting to smoke my tangiers perfectly since I got my order 2 days ago.

I have orange soda OG and Horchata. I have only atttempted to smoke the Orange soda so far, with not very much flavor but good clouds. Actually I can't really taste it at all tbh.

I live in Florida..

I have no idea what horchata is supposed to smell like but it DOESNT smell like bbq or soy sauce..it just smells sorta tobacco and sorta..I guess horchata. It's been acclimating for 48 hours now.

I live down in Texas which can be a bit of an issue with the weird climate in the winter. Now that we've leveled off into our summer humid/hot days every day I started to reacclimate all of my OG since NONE(except peach) was any good in the past. I've now had Cocoa, Brambleberry, Orange Soda, Mimon, Red Tea, horchata, and Blue Gum ball acclimating for the past two weeks and they all smell/taste like bbq and soy sauce(some dont smell or taste like anything as well such as horchata). Right now it's just money down the toilet unless I can figure out how to get this stuff to acclimate correctly, even though the last two weeks the weather has been steady.

Eric, i know we have already talked about my acclimation issues in another thread but i thought i might post it here to, gather all the info at on place.

I ordered 4x250g Tangiers. Static Starlight, Blueberry and Kashmir Cherry is the OG/noir ones.

I have spread them out on foil, mixing them several times a day, letting them air out for up to a week, and all this several times again.

None of the tobacco has ever smelled really good except a short few seconds when opening a container that has been closed.
BBQ/soy sauce/nasty tobacco is the general smell.

I acclimate all the tobacco in my room and thats also where ive been (acclimate at the same place as you smoke i know smile.gif ) the times i tried to get it to smoke (event though it hasnt smelled good, waste of tobacco, i know).

I tried acclimating blueberry outside, didnt work, same smell. Put the Kashmir Cherry in the freezer for a bit over 24h, didnt help either.

I am starting to really believe that the tobacco can "die" from a too big or too often changing humidity. After trying to acclimate it for so long it does barely smell good even when i just opened a closed container, the tobacco feels "spent". All the tangiers i got ive ordered from mnhookah, maybe the issue is related to this - san diego -> minnesota -> sweden, talk about humidity shock tongue.gif

But then, the weather is mostly very unstable here in sweden, clear blue skyes then boom, its raining like in a friggin rain forest doh.gif

*I know you mentioned that this thread was about the OG/noir line only but i im having almost the exact same issues with the f-line orange soda and to an extent lucid raspberry (the flavour defineatly smells stronger and better with the lucid but there is still some issues), just dont want to leave any info out.

I've always had trouble with acclimating. My first purchase of OG grapefruit never got around to smelling like anything other than soy sauce. I've had similar results with any other flavor (blueberry, schnozz, watermelon, horchata, orange soda, etc.). If I do muster up the courage to smoke a bowl it always ends up harsh and/or flavorless. I've tried several packing methods, different coal types and amounts but still no smoke like the smoke described by most Tangiers users here.

I live in Miami. Edited by Doubon

I get it to acclimate for a couple days, then it loses flavor. I leave my tub open 24/7. My room is very dry which is where I do most my smoking and I acclimate out in the dining room which is not as dry like my room, but I do let it sit in my room after I let it acclimate for a full day. (about 10-20 min before smoking)

I live on long island which humidity never really drops below 30-40% Today and yesterday humidity was 100%. Edited by newjacksm

Who has Trouble Getting Tangiers to Acclimate?

Answer the following questions for yourself, at home:

1. I have never been able to get any Tangiers to Acclimate. (True/False)
2. I have tried different packing methods and none of them work. (T/F)
3. Tangiers always smells burnt or like soy sauce. (T/F)
4. I have tried leaving Tangiers out for extended periods of time, to no avail, it doesn't change at all. It still smells off. (T/F)
5. I have tried smoking it and it tastes bad. (T/F)

If you answered false to any of these questions, I can't use you for this study. Don't respond to this thread. Thanks for your participation and cooperation. All the posts I moved to this thread are appropriate for the scope of this study.

Also, for these purposes, I want primarily people inside the U.S...if you're outside the US, you can participate, too, if you have Tangiers tobacco handy to use. It'll be obvious why after awhile. Hopefully we'll be able to make some progress and you non-US users will benefit, too. You non-US users can be adjunct members of the study, maybe help, too...

Unfortunately, my post came up late because it has a newer post date, so as it goes...

So i can't participate angry.gif ...

F
F
F
F
F ... i have gotten a couple flavors to work but when majority of them don't work i think i should still count in the study. Like i said in my OG post melon blend and k-peach were the 2 successful flavors but everything else which is like 10-12 flavors didn't work.

Is there a reason you are completely ruling everyone out if they had a small amount of success?

1. I have never been able to get any Tangiers to Acclimate.
1/2 the flavors I have bought ive had a hell of a time getting to acclimate right.

2. I have tried different packing methods and none of them work. (T/F)
Ive never really had a good session of tangiers.

3. Tangiers always smells burnt or like soy sauce. (T/F)
It does smell burnt the majority of the time. Or just weird.

4. I have tried leaving Tangiers out for extended periods of time, to no avail, it doesn't change at all. It still smells off. (T/F)
Not 100% but I have had this problem with some flavors.

5. I have tried smoking it and it tastes bad. (T/F)
True..every time :|

I think it's a packing issue nontheless...it just ALWAYS taste so harsh! even with bits and pieces of coco's cracked on my phunnel :|

Blah! I am more then just a T/F answer, It tastes fine for me the first day after acclimating it and then after that it starts smelling like tabacco with a hint of the flavor in the background. When I pack it the flavor isnt there anymore! Just clouds and my mouth feels like I was puffing on a cigar

I have never really had trouble with it.

Time is the wildcard factor. Here, in the winter it's dry, very dry, it actually takes longer to stabilize to a mid January minnesota day than other seasons. Even then I just put it an an open apothecary jar, and let it sit uncovered in the corner of my office for a few days (ok, sometimes I forget it there, and it turns to many days.)

In the summer, the humidity seems to stabilize faster, 12 hrs, a day at the most. I always attributed that tho the fact a MN July day is close to a Kali day.

I store it in antique apothecary jars, they are not sealed, just a glass cover on a wide jar.

Jacking around with different coals, or between naturals, and QL's will leave you with problems. (and nasty shisha.)
Excessive contact with the foil seems to be a bad thing. It may be a bit more sensitive than other brands.

Oh, and if you are using a screen, it's hopeless. You might as well dump bleach and ammonia in the vase, it may be a more palatable concoction.

Let's do this thing. Im willing to participate tongue.gif Anything to help me understand why my sessions are terrible. I just want 1 good session to make up for all these bad ones. I know it will happen soon enough.

I've only ever gotten lucid to smoke well, but it's been a long time since I've tried regular. Always acclimated, but smoke was harsh and then even with little heat on it (or after adding more)

I'm very interested in seeing the results of this "study" and hoping everyone finds something that'll work for their location.

Should smell somewhat like vanilla, a creamy smell, with some cinnamon. If it smelled like it should, you would definitely know.

I'll participate. People who have had issues with OG tangiers, I would recommend trying lucid... I had troubles getting OG to smoke right, bought lucid and now thats all I want to smoke.

My lucid raspberry actually smells pretty good, that would place the acclimation issue with the nicotine/washing? I mean OG vs lucid

I have smoked lucid with no problems, i am more of a fan of shishas that give a buzz tho, so I am not the biggest fan of lucid.
