Heating Natural Coals With A Pan.

well, ive seen a video of a guy using a hot plate, same concept as a pan, i guess. you can try your toaster oven.

You can actually use a pan with a cover. They will get really hot but not burn until you pull off the cover. It may not be very practical for your first coals but if you pull the cover a couple of minutes before you need them. It's a controlled burn.
I just don't think it is very energy efficient but it does work. Cast iron skilllets with lids at least.
