A Illuminating Hookah Table... Boredom At Its Finest

So me and my roommates were bored one nite, and decided to do all kinds of modding to the hookah. We started small by making a diffuser, and later decided to hack up a table we found on the street to make a hookah table.

Basically, the lighting comes from the base of a lava lamp (i.e. lava lamp without the glass part). We cut a hole on the top of the table just big enough for the lava lamp base to fit through, but small enough that my Mya QT's base doesnt go through. A hole was cut open on the side so the plug/switch can come out. It just so happened that the cord was long enough that the switch can be placed outside the table.

So here are the pics:

Yes, its a hack job, but it looks amazing in person. Also, since the Mya QT doesnt catch ashes too well, the ashes can fall on the table instead of our carpet...its much easier for cleaning.

One issue is the light does make the base alittle warm. We're eventually gonna try putting in a led instead of the standard lightbulb to reduce heat. But since we made the entire hookah table for free, we cant complain

That's cool guys, and a good find on the table.

Also, walmart has bulbs that change color with music, and it would also fit in that fixture. Put a little ice in there if you want a show without the water getting too hot.

More projects; I demand it! smile.gif

We've been using ice, but the ice melts faster cause of the bulb. But we now have a led light bulb that we can screw into a regular light bulb socket so hopefully that'll work.

Haha hopefully more projects will arise

where did you get the led that screws into a regular light bulb fixture? lol i want one to try this

theyre pretty easy to find...just search google for led light bulb.

btw we tried it, and it doesnt emit heat at all so it works great. However, its much dimmer than a normal light bulb, so ull get more of the actual color of the hookah base instead of the white-ish hue you see on the pics (i.e. mine looked really blue...its still looks awesome tho)

go to your local hardware store and look for a porcelain lamp holder. you can get them in both porcelain and plastic (plastic will be cheaper about $1)

Then go over to the lamp accessors and get a replacement lamp cord. It will be a plug with just bare wires on one end.
This should cost you less then $5

The one issue with that light bulb holder is that fact that it doesnt focus light as well. A normal light bulb is not very directional so light is dispersed throughout the inside of the table. But since the light bulb fixture of a lava lamp is cone-shaped, all the light is directed upwards. If u wanna use that lamp holder, i suggest using a led bulb since led's are much more directional.

very nice table, free is always the best. planning on making one myself soon.

filters what... the water doesn't filter anything... it just cools the smoke.

Yeah it does... the water acts as a filtering material. As some of the dust and crap from the smoke travels through the water, it sinks to the bottom of the vase rather than sucking through your hose. Ever inhaled the smoke coming out of your bowl when cleaning or something and had it burn your nostrils? That's what the smoke would be like without the water filtration.

idk about you. well actually i do and i know there shouldn't be any dust or crap in your head or shisha so that makes no sense and there shouldnt be any in the stem either. onyl thing i can think of is coal ash. and its not the filtering that makes it easy to take without the burn its the fact that water cools the smoke. i mean i could be 100% wrong. but i love talking out of my ass.

the smoke is made up of tons of different particles, some that you want (flavor) and some that you dont want (carginogens) the water filters out anything that is big enough to sink to the bottom of the bubble in the time that the bubble travels through the water.

the increase in temp makes the water more absorbent, thus it absorbs more of the bigger particles, which are mostly bad things.
