Do Not Heat Coal On Glass/ceramic Cooktop

I did, and fucking burned the glass on a 2006 Whirlpool Gold Glass Cooktop. I never thought coal could screw a cooktop like that.

Word of warning to you!

It could have been much much worse, I've heard of people shattering the cooktops trying to heat coals on them. THe only good way to go about it is to use a pan you don't care for and heat the coals inside of that.

I probably wont be in that situation, but thanks for the heads up

I went to walmart and bought a singler burner for 10$. No need to use that cooktop.

It aint much ruined but that big black screen aint pretty.

did you try one of the flat top cleaning kits? i really doubt you will be able to burn the top to the point where you cant clean it off since it is a ceramic or glass

Seriously you put the coal DIRECTLY onto it?

Really? Your not havin' a Giraffe?

Because this is possibly the daftest thing I have ever heard of in Hookahland!

Now I have a ceramic hob.... But I use a frying pan when heating coals on it! - Give it a try.

So I was experimenting with Nahkla naturals... Had the bag of coal on a heat-proof glass worksurface protector.
Using a propane torch i was merrily lighting said naturals...
...
it wasn't a shotgun - It was the glass heat-proof work surface protector exploding. Everywhere!
With a full bag of Nahkla naturals all nice and glowing hot in the middle of it the mess
...
Destroyed a $20,000 kitchen work surface.

I thought putting coal directly on the heat-source was the consensus... How long does it take you to heat coal in a frying pan? And are you using a "normal" pan, or something with a thinner bottom?

on the heat source yes... except flat tops. any pan will work it just will take longer than on a coil element. but if you put them on at the start of set up and dont speed through it you probably wont notice at all

I have a MNH glass screen, and it is very easy to clean. In fact, it doesn't even leave any coal residue. So how dumb must I have been to think the glass of a 2000 cooktop would be so hard to clean or be forever stained when a 20$ piece piece of glass does just fine?

I tried once on my ceramic stovetop and gave up after a few minute when it was clearly not heating the coal properly. Definitely get a coil heater smile.gif I also made a wide tube of tinfoil to catch the bits of coal which crackle and snap off the main piece, it's a bitch to clean those up!

Allright allright jesus christ.

Of course if one thinks about it the coal concentrates the heat in one spot where as hob tends to spread the heat over a wider area. This could well be the problem.

Have you tried using the ceramic hob cleaning stuff? It works miracles.

ok i get your logic but its flawed logic, probably more so a misinformation type flawed logic.

the "glass" cook top is ceramic, not glass, big difference.
