You Know What Really Grinds My Gears?

Well of course there's a line. I think it works something like this. As a small child your role is almost strictly as a parent. As a teenager it starts to mix a bit and the line gets a bit blurry. And once the kid moves out and starts handling his own life is when your job is about done and you can start being more of a friend.

Dont be mad cause ur pos domestic muscle car dosent make 100 Hp per liter.

The funny thing is that you'd probably call me a liar if I told you that my 6 liter GTO actually did get 100 hp per liter.

You know, I don't give a flying f*** if someone likes imports, just don't get that supremacist attitude, when people like you (Saechao) believe that all imports are superior and that domestic cars are inferior. Not all imports are fast, just like not all domestic cars are fast. Next time you decide to make a statement, make sure you got the facts to back up your ego.

Everyone has their own taste in cars. A clean import or a clean domestic can be just as good. I personally love German cars. I had the entire "I <3 my Honda" crowd with the Japanese ability to drive stickers on their cars.

lol it's not that anything is wrong with "hondas" it's what's wrong with the guy above that "oddly" hasn't replied after he showed his wrongly placed elitist attitude.

Imports are sweeping the market in this country. The big three Japanese companies are now far outselling the big three American companies. It has nothing to do with people's preferences. It's all about the pocketbook. GM, Ford, and Chrysler are only just now starting to convert some of their factory power from SUVs and trucks to more fuel efficient small cars. It's going to take 2-3 years for them to catch up to the demand right now, meaning there's going to be a long period of pain for them. I'd honestly rather buy an import than a home-grown model for that very reason, it'll help to drive the point home harder. I own a Nissan and I love it, but it's a truck so it's not getting the gas mileage I'd like to see. Eventually a couple of drop in improvements will boost it a bit, but now I'm regretting getting a mid-sized truck in the era of $4-5 gas.

I remember my first car, little 2 door nissan sentra. Served me well and is still running as far as I know, they've got great engines in them.

BUT I think everyone is missing the point of the whole "import" thing. One guys' attitude about his car (I don't care if it's an import or not) the type of car has nothing to do with it, the attitude and the stereotypical images of the attitude + particular car.

people who wear clothes with the tags and stickers still on them.

people who wear their hats where the rim is pointed towards the sky

people that wear pants that are like 5 times too big and its hanging down to their knees ( they also have a belt on that serves no purppose)

people who tuck the front of their shirts in just to show off their belt buckle.. why not tuck it in all the way?

people that get stuff stuck under their skin to make it pop out

OK, I've seen lots of body mods, but pics please? ohmy.gif

My driving pet peeves:

1. People who just HAVE to pass you, and then SLOW DOWN.
2. People who STOP on an entrance ramp before merging into traffic moving at 65 mph, when there is NO STOP SIGN. I will admit, though, that with my car, I kind of have fun going from 0 to 65 like that. rolleyes.gif But it messes with everyone else on the ramp.
3. People who drive down the breakdown lane in stopped traffic. What, are you SPECIAL? I love it when there is a cop waiting at the end.
4. Lane drifters. Pick a lane, any lane, please?
5. People who block the passing lane on a two-lane highway, going the same speed as the car next to them (which is generally at or under the speed limit). Instant traffic jam. dry.gif
6. The idiot on 1-84 in New York State last summer, doing 40 mph in the right lane, at night, in the rain, in a black car, with no running lights. I almost hit him, and we both almost got hit by a semi doing 70 mph. Drive in the breakdown lane you MORON!

I do a lot of long-distance driving, so I could probably continue the list on... *sigh* And for the record, I drive an Acura, which is a glorified Honda, and I love it because it is great fun to drive. It is an RSX Type-S. The gas mileage is pretty good, too, if I drive it mildly, which is hard to do, but I try...

Another pet peeve of mine, and this may cause some controversy with some, we'll see, is the "child-friendlying" of everything. I don't like it. We see it at Ren Faire a lot. Can't have that act, it's not child friendly. Don't want to have beer, not child-friendly. Have to make allowances for people to bring children to places. Have to have screaming children in nice restaurants. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate children, I just find that people feel the need to take them EVERYWHERE lately. Infants and small children in evening R-rated movies tick me off. I want to HEAR the movie, thank you. Growing up, there were events and places that my parents went to, that were for ADULTS, and children just didn't go. And speaking of that, I think that we are increasingly doing teens a disservice by expecting less and less of them, as far as responsibility and independence. I think the "age of childhood" is expanding, and I don't think it's a good thing.

You hate people that stick to the legally posted limit and avoid unwarranted police attention and/or fines?

i've been saying that for years! you know, the first person to do that was some female celebrity in like the 1920's or 30's. i forget the name, but i remember my mother telling me about that many years ago. the woman accidentally left the price tag on her brand new hat and when she went out and the public saw it and took pictures, they asked her why she had done it. she was embarrassed at first, but then, just like any quick-witted individual, she said that it was the new style. of course, since she was a celeb, everyone believed it and women started doing that.

what goes around comes around. haha

hey, now, i do that from time to time and when I do it, it's cool, okay. lol. i almost quit doing it because i started to see so many people doing it and i thought it may be tacky, but my wife said she liked it, so i've kept doing it from time to time. most people don't do it correctly, though and it looks sloppy. it's less tucking it in and more just putting the shirt behind the belt buckle. if you do it like that, then it looks casual and stylish. (i think, at least.)

Yeah, well those people who don't do it, probably don't do it because they're embarassed of their beltbuckles. tongue.gif

lol that gavem me a chuckle for sure. Minnie Pearl was actually popular in the 70's on the television show Hee Haw. I remember her, and I'm old, but I ain't THAT old! She was a comedienne, and the price tag on her hat was her signature. She also used to yell HOWW-DEEEEEEEEE to the audience.

My economics prof from India, I believe (Prakash Sharma, maybe UAE, not sure) once told us that wearing price tags on suits was a sign of achievement in their culture, actually.

I have seen the driving comments, but here in Appleton I have never seen such bad drivers. They have no concept of Merge, what the fast lane is for or to move out of you way when they are in the fast lane and they going 60 in a 65...
Then in winter they still drive fast and end up in the ditch. Yeah dude, you have 4 wheel drive, but that does help you stop better. wtf

I'm with you on the 4WD thing. It does not work on ICE. Idiots. Nothing worse than having an out of control, giant SUV sliding at you at 60 mph on the ice.

What grinds my gears is road rage. Every day on the news somebody got shot or families have been killed because of road rage. Phoenix lacks courteous drivers. When you use your turn signal, people speed up. What pisses me off are people that do not yield to drivers merging onto a freeway.

Lastly, people in restaurants that whine, complain, or make a scene just because they want free food. That shit gets really old.

My Ex wife was a waitress and she had customers that would complain all the time about the food, but they ate it all. This was a really good family restaurant also. So if it was so bad why did you eat it and not say anything??

Down with Road Rage!!!!

+1 to that. 4wd does not mean you can go as fast as you want on snow and ice. When I was 16 I put my mom's blazer in the ditch. It had just started snowing and I didnt bother with the 4wd, and went through a corner, and my shitty abs brakes locked up going 10 mph and I ended up partway in the ditch. While waiting for a tow, 3 suvs damn neat hit me, all stopped and said "wow that was close and i even have it in 4wd!"
