seeing the fried egg on the burger reminds me of a place called Dangerous Dans located here in toronto. i reckon dangerous dans serves the best burgers here.

There is an occasional linguistic distinction between "beer" and "ale" ("beer" meaning a lagered - cold fermented - malt beverage, "ale" meaning a fermented malt beverage utilizing yeast strains that are most active around room temperature), but in the common vernacular any hopped fermented malt beverage is a type of beer. Stout is an ale, as are most styles of hopped malt beverages called "beer". There are many varieties of lagered beer, but there are many more varieties of ale. Then there's the wild fermentation stuff like geuze, lambic, and Flanders red... although they are considered ales as well.

I have not tried every recognized style of beer, but I do have favorites in a few categories. There are a few styles that I just have not found anything to like, like American-style wheat beers.

Lagers -
American Lite/Standard/Premium Lager: Miller High Life (good on a hot day)
Schwarzbier (black lager): Koestritzer
German Pils: Eggenberg Hopfenkoenig
Oktoberfest: Spaten, Paulaner, and Sam Adams are all good
Doppelbock: Paulaner Salvator (the originator of the style, incidentally)

Hybrid styles -
Cream Ale: Wexford

Ales -
English Bitters: Whitbread, Fuller's ESB
American Pale: lots of good stuff here, a good example is Sierra Nevada
American Amber: Bell's
American Brown: Legend
Brown Porter: Fuller's London Porter
Robust Porter: Smuttynose
Dry Stout: Beamish
Sweet Stout: Mackeson's
Russian Imperial Stout: North Coast Old Rasputin
American IPA: Bell's Two Hearted, Sierra Nevada Celebration, Victory Hop Devil
Imperial IPA: Stone Ruination
Hefeweizen (German style, NOT American wheats!): Weihenstephaner
Witbier: Hoegaarden, Sam Adams White Ale
Belgian Dark Strong: Chimay Grande Reserve

And then there's my own beer. Here's some shots of a few batches I've made - American pale, dry stout, German hefe:

I had to stock up on ingredients - grain is getting more expensive and hop prices have gone through the roof - when you can even get them! - due to the shortage.

Sam Adams (everyone I have tried so far is great)
Shiner Bock (Love the original)
Shine Blonde (More bohemian taste, than the original)

for cheap shitty beer that i just get drunk on, can't touch PBR and highlife.

as for a good beer, well
anything unibroue, but particularly la fin du monde and trois pastoles
dogfishhead 90 minute and 120 minute IPA. i am absolutely in love with the 90, i just wish it wasn't 10 bucks for a 4 pack...the 120 packs quite the wallop too
i've only tried a couple, but Rogue is quite good
yuengling black and tan as well as just their amber lager is great
young's double chocolate stout
