Silly Question: Coal Expiration Date?

I was amazed to see that the local Middle Eastern store that i frequent to purchase groceries (im middle eastern) has been carrying Exotica coals!

They dont have the best selection of any hookahs, accessories or shisha, so i didnt bother looking at their coal selection till i saw that familiar box that ive seen so many pics of.

I picked up a box last night and i haven't had a bowl smoke so well and so clear of any coal taste - ever. Ive seen reviews but never switched out my quick-lights.

Im in love, so my silly question is, Exotica's dont expire do they? Cuase they have a box of exotica's for $4.25 and i was going to go back and pick up a nother couple of boxes. I want to buy them all incase they come back and up the price.

Moisture from the air will be your main concern. I've noticed that if you leave charcoal out in the air for a long time, it becomes harder to light it. But if you keep it in an air tight container, should be fine.

PS: Never used exotica's, mainly use natural, or formed charcoal.

exoticas ARE formed charcoals..unless you mean something other than chopped and formed natural charcoal type finger coals?

You might want to be careful with reduced price exoticas though. Some say that the reduced price ones are actually from vendors getting rid of the crap batch to some seller who is willing to get them off of their hands. Just check before you buy (if you can).

Edit: Ahhh, nevermind. I didnt see the part about you buying from a middle eastern store. In that case, still check before you buy, but buy the crap out of those things! Edited January 19, 2008 by Bulldog_916

At the moment I am personally smoking the shit out of a box of coals I purchased 7 months ago. It feels no different than a new box, note, I'm smoking coconara brand, the kind you warm up on a burner.. I've had experiences with the ring brand, instant light, where moisture exposure took place, and encountered issues with trying to light the coals, had a hard time. But, as long as you are patient with instant light and keep the fire on it until fully lit, you should have no problems.
