I Just Smoked And Now I Feel Really Sick...

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone. I just got my first hookah from H-S yesterday. I tried smoking it yesterday, but being new to all of this, I didn't really set it up right and ended up burning the shisha. I set it up again today determined to get it right and I finally got some pretty good smoke. Only problem is, now I feel really sick. I never felt like this when I smoked with my friends. Does anyone else get this way? I hope this doesn't mean I can't smoke hookah...I can't see why though since I feel just fine after smoking with my friends.

Yeah it's just a matter of setting it up right. Most people I know don't feel especially well directly after trying hookah for the first time. Along with setting it up the only other thing is that you'll get used to it after a few times. But a hookah experience should be smooth and nice, not harsh. Just practice.

Any clues about what might have gone wrong with the setup?

Packing it wrong, not putting enough water in, having too many coals making it too hot, that could have made it harsh, try using less coals, or starting it off with 2 coals then moving to one coal, if its still harsh then move the coal more towards the edge.

Make sure your also either eating while smoking or have eaten a meal reacently cuz smoking on an empty stomac can make you feel ill. I also drink lots of water to avoid a headache afterwards as well.

I agree. I found out the hard way that hookah on an empty stomach will make you sick. Having something to drink while you smoke is also a good idea.

...and sometimes you just get sick anyway, like I just did, lol! Edited by kitefanatic

using not completely lit coals is always bad. what shisha are you using, did u follow guidelines to set it up properly?

That actually may have been my problem. I'm using quicklights and it seems like no matter what I do they don't get too hot. I'm using golden quicklite coals and when I first apply a flame to them they sparkle a bunch and then the black layer burns away. After that though it doesn't seem to be red hot at all. How long do I have to keep them on a flame in order to get them hot? Oh, and I was smoking with the romman tobacco that came with my H-S order.

The coals should be red hot underneath the layer of grey ash.
If I'm smoking outside I blow that layer away to get my coal hot and the holes in the foil clear.
But inside is too dirty.

I'd recommend investing in a blow torch of some variety and holding the flame to the coal for about 40 seconds or until it looks good and ready (no black).

I always have tea. Also keep in mind that after all, nicotine is a neurotoxin, and a side effect of nicotine for some is nausea.

Nicotine is only a neurotoxin in dosages exceeding typical use... i.e., those people that would lick/chew the patches when they first came out, or the >20mg/kg they give rats in some studies. In therapeutic dosages it's quite protective (via ACH and MAO inhibition).
