Blow Out Your Bowl!

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone-

It's nice being back on the forum after a long break from posting, hope everyone is going well, and thanks Mush!

Anyway to the post....Some may know about this some may not, but its pretty simple when your bowl starts getting harsh, and you have only been smoking about 20mins or so, don't take a coal off try this instead!

Take the bowl off (traditional bowls only, not phunnel, SC, etc.) Blow thru it about 5-8 times until the smoke clears from it, and when I say blow I mean blow hard! Get all the ash and coal and smoke out of that thing!

Let me know how it goes for you all!
cya.

blowing through the bowl is essentially just cooling down the tobacco to give you a smoother smoke.
but, the bowl is hot. so it might be easier to just lower the heat from your coal(s).

Well I agree to Disagree. Have you tried it? I don't believe its just cooling it down, because your just blowing air thru it, and then putting the coals right back on. It would then reach the temp. it was at before in a matter of seconds or minutes. Blowing thru it, and shaking it up does make a big difference try it.

it is, quite technically, cooling it down, but i doubt by much. whenever you blow on something, you generally cool it down (less its fire...), because by the rapid motion of the air around the object it "whisks" away the heat from that particular object. like wind... you always feel a slight chill or at least cooler when its windy. or if you blow on a burn from your coals.

but i'd rather just rotate the coals, it takes too long and i want to keep smokenn

I actually use the remove the bowl and blow through the bottom method at the lounge if the Temp. gets to high. It also helps clear any ash that might be clogging your holes in the foil. You do have to watch it when you pull the bowl because it can be hot, but im building up calluses and it impresses the customers. wink.gif

I absolutley HATe when people do this!!

Have you ever notice how you lose a ton of flavor after you do this? Because I notice.. and it pisses me off....

Instead of blowing through the bottom of the bowl.....take the coal off.... take the hose out....and blow through the hose and move it around the bowl..

LESS MESS.. no juice dripping out of the bottom of the bowl.. you dont lose the flavor.. (im guessing from blowing all the smoke out,, there IS FLAVOR IN THERE?) You dont burn your hands from the scortching hot bowl..

haha

I agree on this plus itjust creates a mess and a nice high chance of burning yourself mellow.gif

I'm guessing the reason for the flavour loss is the fact that the bowl has usually started BURNING, which is why you have to do this stunt in the first place. Even getting it too hot once can damage the flavour unless you catch it REAL fast. There is no other logical reason why this would cause a reduction in flavour. You are just cooling the bowl the same way as if you had let the coals run low.

+1 on rotating coals. It's faster and you can keep smoking. I don't feel like burning my hands and dealing with that mess of juices running down my hands and face. It's a lot easier to just learn how to manage your coals and keep consistant heat.

Well its not really all that hot if you just grab a paper towel or just be a stud like mush and I and get use to the pain it isn't all that bad.....Also it should NEVER EVER drip....all you do is take the bowl of and then turn it up side DOWN blow thru a few times and ur set....no burning, no pain, no charcoal mess.

The whole point is for it to bring back flavor, not lose it.

Yea but when you are blowing out.. and all thesmoke is going away.. that COULD be tasty smoke you could be inhaling... lol..

And Some tobacco is really really juicy and drips without even taking the bowl off..... so there is no stopping it...

Not trying to bash your idea... I just find that the way I do it works better (for me)*shrugs*

I agree with you on some parts.....but you should try it one more time for me, and tell me if it made it worse or better.

this is deffinintly a "you done fucked up" mesure.

blowing out cools down the tobacco allot. you may be losing flavore temperarly because the tobacco has to heat up again, and if you are getting the same amount of smoke right away, for god sakes, take a coal off.

as for blowing out, it does more then just cools down the tobacco. if a hole gets cloged by the tobacco, it rights it self out when you do this, and also airates packed points.

the idea with the hose should work well, but, if you don't have a glass or metal bowl, the heat should not be much of a problem, and you don;t want the juce from the tobacco to get on the hose end. this would cause gunk build up oin the femail end of the hookah and that is severly bad for multy hose hookahs.

Yeah, I'm sailing with Mushy on this one.

I believe the idea is intended to redistribute the remaining juice back towards the top of the bowl. Since its warm, the viscosity of the juice will be quite low and it will be mobile enough to move by blowing. This of course, won't work with a phunnel bowl. The logic seems good, but the tobacco smokes from all sides, not just the top and the charcoal. Redistributing the juice doesn't affect the amount of juice in there which is what is causing the problem in the first place. The other one is that ash falls into the bowl and it needs to be removed otherwise it makes the tobacco harsh. I'm pretty sure that is false. The tobacco won't even notice ash in there, the same way boiling saltwater doesn't even notice the salt there, only the water boils off.
