How To Make The Smoke Thicker...

Recommended Posts

The tobacco can determine how easy it is to get thick smoke, and to some extent it can affect the maximum thickness of the smoke. But pretty much all brands should have the capacity to smoke very thick -- it's just a matter of heat management. What creates the smoke is glycerin -- if (for some reason) you are wiling to sacrifice flavor for thicker smoke, add some glycerin. Edited by symptom CY

get a funnel bowl with a scallimod

In Fairness Echo this is not allways the best solution.

I only ever smoke nahkla from a traditional bowl. And I allways get thick good clouds & flavour from that. Different tobacco's seem to like different setups.

Layalina I can smoke in either the funnel or the traditional, there is only marginal differences.

9 times out of 10 it's down to how you pack the bowl and manage your heat. People have been smoking nargile for the past 3000 years give or take a millenium without Phunnel bowls!

Getting a funnel bowl is a lazy answer in my opinion. Learn to mange and make the good sweet smoke... Then start messing around with Funnel bowls!

just my 2p's worth (4c for my american brothers tongue.gif )

I've only smoked from traditional bowls, and can produce very thick smoke. It's just a matter of packing the tobacco properly (don't overpack, don't let it touch the foil, concentrate it more on the sides, etc.), and having enough coal.

Also, it is claimed that milk in the base instead of water produces thicker smoke, but I didn't notice a difference when I did it.

You might want to try a wider hose. Hooking up a wide hose has always got me a lot more smoke volume no matter the setup, and that can condense in the inhale to be thicker on the exhale.

Johnny D is right, and lead's suggestion is worth consideration too -- you just have to be a little careful using that method as it can cause overheating very easily. I don't usually do it because in my experience, it hasn't always been the best way to get thick AND smooth smoke.

You want thick smoke. First off, in your base, try this. Use one part swetened condensed cream ( i use the whole small can) 2 parts water, and the rest ice. Have your stem submerged 3/4" in the mixture. Next, get a good hose, I like the MYA THICK and the NAMMOR, but the MYA THICK has better flavor everytime for me. Finally, I like to use the funnel with mod or the superchief. I have successfully used my funnel with mod for all tobacco, nakhla, al waha, al amir, al fakher, smileys, starbuzz, fantasia, and im sure some others I am missing. I have produced thick smoke with all of these. The other thing is your heat management and coal amount and placement. for what its worth I can get really really thick smoke with regular bowls too, I just can not get the same flavor that I can with the funnel with mod or superchief. If you need more helps or tips let me know. Also, milk in the base with water can work, but the milk bubbles so much its a pain, which is why i use the sweetened condensed cream. I have successfully used heavy whipping cream (made hookah butter haha) but i like the condensed cream the best as it does not make the water have these bubbles that rise up into the hookah. Hope I have helped.

Is it just me who thinks you should just learn to make the hookah smoke before starting all this other fancy crap?

Just a thought - It's like learning to drive. You start off in a 1.1 Fiesta and work your way up.

All this other crap is like A/C and electric windows. Nice, but should still still learn to drive first!

No, you're not alone. It helps to be a broke hookah smoker - you only get the bare necessities first, then work your way up to the fancy things smile.gif

I'm glad somebody was thinking it. It seems whenever a question about smoke or flavor pops uo, theres always a group of people, each swearing to their own special base mix, hole configuration, different ways to wrap foil, etc etc. You know how I get alot of smoke? I use a windcover with a little less coal to heat the entire bowl at once, then let it sit for a little while. That's all.

Thanks Allia and Macho.

I use a windcover. That's it. That's all. On/Off the windcover to keep the heat about right.

And I can make just about anything smoke.

I remember the advice i got given when i first came here. It wasn't cream & funnels.

It was learn your heat management. Learn how to pack your bowls. Experiement in what works for you.

Thanks guys. I am glad i'm not alone in keeping things old Skool.

1) Packing propery
2) Heat management
3) Use of Glycerin when needed can increase smoke density in dry tobacco's (like Naklha).

Phunnel, etc. don't have any real differences in smoke density.

Any ideas on how to make it more dense smoke...
Does it matter if the tobacco being used is moist?
Can tobacco determine the amount of smoke being produced?

Just from experience of smoking. I've noticed a difference when using moist shisha and dry shisha. I've had a few times where I've picked up little 50gram bags of shisha from a hookah bar in town and it seems really watery. The downside of this was the amount of shisha I got should have covered for atleast 2 bowls worth but it being so moist I had only gotten 1 bowl. I did notice a big difference and thickness compared to the normal small boxes you buy at a smoke shop.

Also when I say moist I mean moist. You can see the color of whatever shisha you got basically drip into the base. After smoking you'll see a big ring of that color drop all out on the top where you put the bowl.

So yea...maybe try looking for watery type shisha and see if that helps.

The stuff in the vase definitely makes a difference in density of the clouds. Ive done whiskey and coffee and both give me really dense (nice tasting) clouds.

Wine seems to have less of an impact, for unknown reasons.

The first thing I seen when I got here was "heat management" Im smoking out of a bowl thats zip tied together and using cheap ass instant lites. And as long as i keep the bowl in that sweet spot where its PERFECT temp i get clouds not smoke.

i'd like to thank johnny d and xyclone for replying on this post. their tips worked so well that i created this account just to thank them. here's what i did to go from a lowly pathetic amount of thin whispy smoke to huge thick clouds (which by the way helped me blow smoke rings on my first try. turns out i could do it all along, it was the smoke's fault i couldn't see it). the only thing i added to those tips was to poke holes through the tobacco so that i could see the holes in the bowl.

When adding water to base/vase of your shisha you add some milk to it or put a full milk base instaed of having it half and half you could also add flavoured milk.

In general you can put any liquid substance in the base when I Smoke a Pineapple Shisha I put pineapple juice in the bottom and pineaple chunks and ice and instaed of using a shsiha bowl i use a pineapple i cut it in half and hollow it out and put my tobacco in cover it with foil poke some holes in it and put coals on it and smoke it, you get a rich flavour of pineapple *Optional : Put milk and pineapple juice in base to make the smoke thick*

Hope this helps :D

3 problems with that, #1 you caught a ban, #2 that post is from 2007 and #3 it doesn't work.
