Headaches

Recommended Posts

Yesterday was the first time I ever got a headach from the hookah. I smoked it wasy too much, basically 3 times back to back alone (aggregate total of about an hour and a half) It felt like a migraine from hell. I'm pretty sure I had more hookah smoke in me than air haha. Anyway, I just simply got some advil, took 3 of them, and went to sleep. They were the 200mg version. If this happens in the future, I will most likely take 1000mg of advil. This is what we used to do in the military for headaches, except it was as single pill that looked like it was designed for a horse and it wasn't under the name brand Advil, but was the same ingredient. Also, on your hand between your thumb and your finger, if you close the gap you notice a fat soft bulge pops up. In this bulge is a nerve. If you massage this nerve hard, for 10-15 seconds, then do the other hand, then do it 2x more per hand, this helps. It is some G-Jo Accupressure stuff I learned back from some survival training. It helps temporarily relieve the pain, but it will come back and when it does I do it more. I do this in conjunction with the medicine. Take care.

Try smoking hookah after you eat something that way you can't have a headache and something to drink while you smoke hookah. I like to drink ice lemon tea while i smoke. If you get headache try to sleep smile.gif Edited by ezie

headaches are headaches. to relieve them use a pain reliever.

Utter Rubbish.

Prevention is better than cure. Often people can prevent headaches by drinking and eating before
smoking.

Throwing pills down your neck is not allways the best solution.

Yesterday was bad. I started the day with a headache from what I could only assume was the hookah the day before. Then I smoked in the morning. BAM, headache doubled in strength. Took some tylenol and waited it out, never went away. At about 6:00 I though, well hell if I'm going to have a headache anyway why not enjoy myself? So I lit up again..... BAD IDEA! I was eating and drinking all day so I don't know what the dealio was. Possibly because I'm trying out a new brand?

1. What coal are you using? <--- If your using BBQ coals this would explain a lot

Otherwise SEE YOUR DOCTOR. No one here is a medical physician.

I was using the silver coated quick lights. Nah this isn't doctor worthy, I was just wondering if any of you had a homeade cure that you like to do. More of a conversation starter really.

Ok smile.gif Was worried you were using BBQ Coals!

Are you making sure you blow off all the silver coverings?

Maybe you should switch to natural coals, you may just have a higher sensitivity to something in the coals?

Ah, I had the same problem. I was using 3 Eagles coals because it was the only stuff the semi-local porn store had (now they've got Rollands... echh). They took a REALLY long time to get completely glowing red, so I'd just wait until the sparking was done and over with and start smoking. Headaches ensued. So I'd plop them on the stove, rotate them, flip them over and whatnot, hold them over the air purifier (just used it as an upwards-blowing fan so sparks didn't go directly on the floor) instead of making myself dizzy blowing on them, and after a while I'd be good to go happy.gif I got my hands on some more 3K 40mms (somehow the 33mms caused headaches as well) and the problem went away.

So its possibly a coal releated problem eh? That makes sense. Even though I'm using the silver foil quick lights, the brand is Starlight which isn't the same as the one raved about on this forum. Me thinks I bought a knockoff brand perhaps...

1. Eat and/or drink before you smoke

2. Make sure you are smoking in a well-ventilated area

3. Make sure your coals are completely lit before smoking (red and glowing)

4. Don't take super-long pulls on your hookah and take 20-30 seconds between hits.

These are a few things that I have found to help.

Fool-proof way to eliminate headaches after smoking:

1. Stop Smoking
2. Chop your head off (or have a really good friend do it).

I never really get them (I do use Japanese coals, which I think help...a lot!)

I do get a feeling of "pressure" in my head, in the morning after smoking...during allergy season, sunlight usually makes it go right away. Edited by Sonthert

For headaches, whatever their cause, there's a fast solution that doesn't require downing pills. An ice pack at the base of your skull for 10-15 minutes. Not the neck, the base of the skull where it connects to the neck. Old medicine woman remedy that I was forced to try once with a really bad headache and not an Excedrin in sight. Worked like a charm and I've only rarely taken tablets for headaches since. The way it was explained to me 'cuz I am NOT a doctor, is most headaches are actually caused by pulsing of the blood vessels in the base of the skull. That obvivously effects blood flow to the brain, so a headache results. Ice stops the pulsing and viola, blood flow is restored and the headache vanished. I just know it works. I was at a party once when a girl got a migraine, her ride was no where to be found, and nobody had any OTC painkillers. She said it worked for her too after I suggested it. Didn't get rid of the migrain entirely, but it reduced it to the point where she said later that she never got around to taking anything for it.

Yeah, I get headaches when I smoke too much hookah for a long period of time.
Oxygen always bring me back to mormal. If you take a couple deep breathes after your done smoking usually helps, i guess its the oxygen that releives the brain.

The only other time I ever got headaches is when i smoke nakhla zhagual, that stuff hurts

My first bad hookah headache I got the other day. Last night my fiance and I both got one. The only thing different than our normal smoking routine is this. Normally we use only one coal. This weekend we used two coals with the new bowl, since it was bigger. I think perhaps that the two coals increased the heat which maybe somehow contributed to the problem. The coals were the same brand and batch that I always use and I have never experienced this with just one coal. Maybe its linked together. Anyway, take care.

only time i have ever gotten a headache or felt ill from hookah, was when i didnt eat before and smoked a lot, or when i smoked several solo sessions back to back in a small room. But yeah, advil and sleep will cure that.
