Hey guys,

Hadn't been on here in a while. Not sure why but I had stopped smoking hookah and I recently caught the bug again and started up again. Just wanted to say what's up to everybody. I see alot of new names, and a few familiar ones. Just finished a transaction for a new KM from Thehookahcentral.com and am really excited about. Thanks to Code and nars2k.

Interest Check: Homemade Phunnel Bowls For Swedish And/Ord Nordic Smokers.

Greetings!

I thought I'd start off by introducing myself. My name is Rickard Gyll and I live in Sweden, 21 years old atm. I was fairly active on the forums a while back when I started out with hookah smoking. I used the forums for help with getting started and after that I havent used the forums very much. I still do check out the vendor section a little now and then. (what happend to MNH anyways? =S I loved that store)

So what is this about? Well I study tourism and wildlife at a folk high school (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Folk_high_school) on the western coast of Sweden. Spring is comming and last week I got my hookah out of the closet. I assembled it on my bed to make sure that I had everything I needed before I packed it all in my backpack. However, this would not be as much of a nice sunny morning as I had thought. My girlfriend sat down on the bed just beside the hookah to take a look at it. Guess what happend, the bed shifted when she sat down and the hookah tipped over smashing my tangiers phunnel bowl. I was just as crushed as the bowl. >.<

However, as luck would have it, the school I study at does not only teach tourism classes, it teaches pottery students aswell. So what I did was that I went over to their building and asked around if there were any one who would be interested in making a replica. I found one that would love the challenge and I am currently waiting for the results. During our conversation I mentioned that there might be a market for these here in Sweden and the countries nearby and she said she might be interested in selling a few, if things turn out fine with the first attempts.

So, I am just posting to see if there is anyone who would be interested in buying one. They would be cheap and if things turn out alright I will post plenty of picture and a good review of it. I cant promise that it'll be as good as the original phunnel bowls but I have a lot of confidence.

Hookah Broke: Help Me Pick A New One

Okay, so we threw a party and my hookah of a year shattered. It was a pretty standard cheap one, 31 inches. But now I'm buying a new one and need help picking one.

So far the two that have really peaked my interest are the Mya Mozza. I'm not sure why. Can people tell me how this is, how it smokes?
http://www.hookah-shisha.com/p-5964-mya-saray-hookah-mozza.html

Also this is the other one that I'm really leaning towards.
http://www.hookahcompany.com/aquarius_temsaah_hookah_4368_prd1.htm

No idea how this thing is.

I generally smoke with between 2-5 people. Looking for a larger sized one, as in 28 inches or higher about. Post some recommendations.

Tangiers Issue

So I've been watching this forum for about 2 years now and reading everything I can on Tangiers. I figured that after all I had read and all the movies I've watched that I could manage to get this stuff smoking but I'm dying here and need some help. I've tried about 6 bowls now and failed epically on all so any suggestions would be GREAT. I've tried watching the HookahJohn video and tried that same method. I've tried the Rayver video method. I've tried overpacking, underpacking. Everything. I'm using a large tangiers phunnel with either spearmint or orange soda. I can get it smoking great but as soon as the smoke gets good and start getting flavor I get that bad tickle in the back and then I start getting the cough. I've tried using heavy duty and regular aluminum foil and I'm using jap coals. Anything I'm missing here or should I just keep screwing around?

Hey all;

Just picked up another hookah; the Mya Mozza. I have a question for anyone who has this hookah: the stock bowl looks awesome, and the custom screen to fit it is pimp. But because of that spike in the middle, a whole coal doesn't fit on the screen.

I've tried a couple different ways to get proper heat on the bowl, and I haven't been able to figure it out yet.
Any suggestions for me?

Tangiers Issue?

I know a lot of people are tangiers fans on this forum which ended up me adding some to my cart when i made my next big shisha order. Normally i am used to smoking AF and only smoke once to twice a month as does my female companion who tried this with me. I tried it on a mya bambino with CH coconut coals.

As soon as i got it smoking became inable to smoke it. This was not due to the flavor (which was very strong and good) but rather my lungs shut down like i was having an asthma attack. the better it got smoking the less deep breathing i could do on it until it degenerated to me able to move less air then a normal breath. Thinking maybe my lungs kicked the bucket on smoking shisha i passed it along to my female companion. The hookah was going good so she tried to take a nice big hit off it and about half way through she came off the hose wheezing and coughing.

this meant either there was something amiss with my bambino, coals or the shisha. We opted to switch out the shisha for an AF grape mint and by comparison was like breathing clean air from the hookah and we had no problems from that point on sticking with the bowl of AF.

Is this because tangiers is known to be strong and because we are not big smokers or is possibly another culprit in play?

Km Washable Hose

I was looking at hoses and I have been smoking for years now and I have always liked KM hoses the best but I like the idea of a washable hose. Tonight after reading somewhere earlier today that to clean your KM or any non washable hose bang the handle against something from all angles and bang the hose and then let the hose hang and blow hard and any loose stuff will come out. So I figured I would give it a try since I never have and I have owned this particular hose a good year and a half. So I banged the hell out of it and let it hang and expected a little black powder maybe well the stuff that started coming out of this hose I never saw anything like it. There was so much black disgusting dirt and saliva and powder coming out I had to get a roll of paper towels to clean off my garage floor. I couldn't believe my eyes there were piles of this junk all over and then when I thought it was clean I would suck in and mouth loads of crap came out so I would blow and tons more of this stuff came out and after a good ten minutes I got it as good as I could. Now I saw no signs of rust but there was a lot of saliva and it got me thinking washable hoses are the way to go. I have three Nammor hoses one which is always on my small Mya but my two large KM's always have KM hoses on them. I like the Nammor Hoses a lot but I always said if KM made a washable hose that would be best. Well as I said I was looking at hoses on line and came across this hose.

http://www.thehookah...hable-hose.html

Now as you see by the name of the link it clearly states KM washable hose. When you read the write up on the hose they never mention the word washable. A review of the hose that someone wrote in it he says he washes it. I saw the same hose at Hookah-life.com and spoke to them and they were out of stock and said they were getting more in, it's the traditional large diameter hose and it is washable. It says nothing about removable tips but it does say acrylic. I just find it strange that with all the continuous talk on these forums about washable hoses this hose I never saw brought up. I am going to research it further and if in fact it is a washable KM hose I am going to buy one. After today regardless if this hose is for real or not I am going to use my Nammors much more often and keep on top of keeping my non washable hoses clean.

Km Tri-Metal: Steel, Copper, And..?

Just wondering what 3 metals are used in the tri-metal and where?

We could reference this as it's a classic tri-metal and we can see that the downstem is steel:
http://www.hookahcompany.com/32_medusa_three_hose_km_hookah_4240_prd1.htm

On the outside, I'm guessing it's real copper, steel, but what is the gold-tone? Real brass? Or gold-tone metal? Some people call it gold, but I'm curious if it's brass.

Also--people say they are brass-core. So does that mean that the first layer is solid brass--and then they are wrapped in steel, copper, and brass/gold-tone metal?

Any insight would be appreciated. Would love to know how these are constructed and with what materials. Thanks!

40Mm And Harsh Tobacco Tip

I just figured this out when smoking some of the harsher or unwashed tobaccos such as some flavors of Al-waha and Nakla.

Before I used the 40mm coals by cutting them in half then putting 2 half pieces across from each other, then putting 2 others on the sides I hadn't used yet when the first 2 halves were done. With Al-waha and Nakla this worked great for the first coals, but on the second set the bowl got very harsh.

So I started using just one half after the first 2 coals were done, and the last coal after that, and this has been working great without the harshness.

Probably common sense for alot of people but it took me awhile to figure this out. Hopefully it can help somebody else out.

Getting Back Into Using My Hookah (Ie., What Am I Doing Wrong?!)

Little background info:
About in April or May of last year, I joined this site to get familiar with a Hookah that was given to us as a wedding gift. It turned out it was a pretty lame, horrible brand Hookah which was the reason we were getting really bad sessions out of it. Well, that and the shisha we were using was one of the worst brands as well as the coals. Needless to say, after browsing this site a while last year, and posting a little, I got myself a nice Hookah (KM, tri-metal)/shisha (Tangiers, Al Fakher)/small funnel bowl/etc. After reading up a ton on how to pack/smoke the Tangiers, I gave it a ago after acclimating for a while. I remember getting a light buzz, little smoke, but hardly any flavor. Not sure if it was because I live in San Antonio (south-ish Texas) and the Tangiers not being acclimated well do to our humidity. I also remember trying the Al Fakher with no avail. Discouraged, as well as a bunch of life stuff piling up, the hookah got set aside..... UNTIL NOW. Pic of package.

Last Night:
I brought the Hookah down from a top the refrigerator, dusted it off, and decided to smoke the living hell out of the thing... or so I thought. The Tangiers I have left over was gone. It smelled horrible (I guess from being over a year old, sitting in a Tupperware container). I wasn't going to chance getting myself sick, so out that stuff went. I still had my Al Fakher. Strawberry was open, but sealed very well, and the Apple I haven't even opened. I decided to give it a go. Here's what I did, step by step:

1) Filled the base with about 10 ice cubes, then with cool tap water up to the point where the stem is about an inch below the water line.
2) Started up the stove and put 2 Coco Nara coals on the burner.
3) Moistened the rubber seal on the stem and rim around bowl for easy connection. Connected. Made sure I had a good seal (covering top of stem and blowing into hose).
4) Fluffed the Al Fakher (Strawberry) into the Egyptian Bowl. Pic1, Pic2, Pic3. Now, I brought the shisha up to the top of the bowl, maybe a tad below and did NOT pack it down. I wrapped heavy duty Reynold's Wrap around the bowl and just poked holes in the foil (not all the way down into the shisha).
5) Set the bowl on the stem, coals on the edge of the bowl, and puffed away.

Ended up getting very, very little smoke. Got a little flavor. Also, got a headache after many pulls trying to get smoke.

Not sure what it is I'm doing wrong. I would *LOVE* to get awesome smoke and great flavor. Any/every help would be very appreciated. Would love to waste away today perfecting this art.

I remember reading that people were using the funnel bowl for Al Fakher.... are people still doing that?

Not a smoker. Friends took me to a hookah bar, I liked the place. It was a fun experience, we were drinking and stuff. But I didn't feel anything. I know you're supposed to hold it in your lungs, tried to breath in as much as I could in my lungs.

Beginner Questions About Nakhla

How do you pack a proper nahkla bowl in a modern bowl? I've seen posts regarding phunnels and vortexs, so should I follow the same principles? The post seem to mention something about packing tight, which Ive always packed lightly to give it more air. Also, "nakhla loves heat"? Does that mean lots of coals? I use three kings and always try to use minimal coals as possible, usually one, but 2 seems to give better smoke. But my friends were also saying it became harsh, and only seemed to las an hour, while starbuzz peach lasted a few hours with lemon naturals. I'd much rather use naturals because i take my hookah everywhere, and i don't have the means to heat naturals everywhere I go. Also, the taste wasn't as good as I expected. Nakhla seems to have a very large fanbase, so It must be good. But so far, my order has lacked in everything it seemed to be praised about, besides the smoke. Sometimes thick, sometimes thin. And the buzz only hit me in the beginning, then faded. Would acclimation help? I've never did this, and I've read good things, It's just mine seemed so dry already...Help please? Thanks,.

After Smoking Nothing But Nak Mizo, And Tangiers On Occasion...

I now know the difference between good shisha and subpar shisha. For me, the flavour has to last throughout the session, and good cloud output is a must. The other brands started out with flavour but quickly died. I became upset, and dissapointed mainly because I have all of these other flavours that I can't stand to smoke anymore, let alone look at them when I open up my shisha chest. I've wanted to throw them out, but I'm torn because I bought them when I was real green to hookah. I'm only 7 months into hookah, but I'm on the fast track to becoming a hookah pro, thanks to you guys.

One of these days, I'll get rid of my sub par shisha, but until then, I'll only smoke the good stuff.

I just want to say thanks guys, for not only helping me empty my bank account,(lol) but exposing me to what a proper hookah session is supposed to be.

It almost makes me not want to try new shishas, for fear I might get stuck with a brand that sucks.
Keep smoking guys!

Idea For Mushy To Save His Bar!

I was driving home tonight and thinking about Hookah Bliss and how it could get around the law. And I remembered something.

In Japan gambling is entirely illegal. However there are pachinko establishments in every city. Where you win "ball bearings," trade them for crappy prizes, then go around the corner and trade those prizes back to the same establishment thru a window for money. So it's gambling, it's just a process of it.

Suddenly and Idea struck me.......Bliss Bucks!
The idea I have is rough right now but the basics are this. Instead of reporting sales of food and drink then you would report sales as merchandise which would exclude your bar from the food/smoking law. The ideas are as follows not sure which would be best to follow.

1) Have people pay you for something, then give them bliss bucks immediately (thus they bought the bucks) then have them pay for the item in the bliss bucks (tada)
(which is one reason arcades do more of the tokens or credit type gaming rather than quarters)

2) Have someone pay you say$2 Give them the bliss bucks, and a "free gift of their choice" (perhaps they'll pick a soda ).

* Then you could even have a chart on Bliss Bucks, so if someone "cashes in" 5 bliss bucks they get a drink. 25 bliss bucks is a free bowl of shisha.

really play with the idea as long as the real USA money is being used to purchase something non-food then you are not violating the law. the law doesn't dictate what you can do with your own brand of currency within your own shop.

These are not 100% bullet proof to the individual but legally they couldn't touch you. It'd require a little more work but hey who cares no more fines lol.

Hey all. I'm having a flavor issue with my small phunnel. I use CH Hookah instalights (2-3 per bowl). I pack the starbuzz to the rim and pack it down, 2x layer foil shiny side down. I have plenty of airflow when I test hit. The hookah itself is a small/ med 21 inch high, all seals are tight and it is clean. I am perplexed at why I can't seem to get good or any flavor out of it. I get smoke and that's about it. Stuff I've tried is SB sex on the beach, blue mist, citrus mist, pineapple/ strawberry. Any suggestions?

I just bought a 96 pack from amazon, and tried em out just a little over half an hour ago. I must say I'm not pleased, but I know I must be doing something wrong. I have always used regular kings, but decided to try another market.

I put them on the stove (2), waited about 4-5 mins, and it lit fine. It took a few puffs to start up, not a problem, but it had a real ashy taste I didn't enjoy. I'm guessing its the left over silver coating on the coals. Should I completely shave it off next time and make it so its completely lit red before putting it on. Any tips?

Today i decided during work when i should have been designing steering systems instead to brainstorm on how to make a sweet hookah, now ive always thought that hand-held hookahs are baller, i used to have one and while the smoke was kind of hot, having it for walking around was really pretty sweet. So i decided i wanted to make a handheld hookah design, but i wanted to make it a little less conspicuous than the handheld hookah i used to own.

therefore i set out to try and make one that would look like a regular pipe albeit a bit bigger. I easily could have done this on solidworks and wowed you all with lifelike looks and dimensions that made sense but i dont wanna invest that kind of time in something i wont actually ever make, just thought it was a cool idea so anyway check my ideas out and if any of you wanna make any sweet MS paint hookah ideas we can use this thread for that.
