  1. Hookah Popularity

QUOTE (Zimper @ Feb 1 2009, 09:27 PM) I Just bought my first Hookah Yesterday! Was introduced 2yrs ago with some type of Strawberry shisha and Ice water in the bowl. I quit cigarettes and smoke shisha once a week with friends! Athough I don't know where to buy Shisha locally... I plan on just buying online. Any of you experienced smokers out there have advice on the best smoke in your opinions? I was thinking of trying starbuzz or romman? Add me as one more person to the list of recent Hookah popularity! Congratulations, welcome!

QUOTE (Zinite @ Feb 1 2009, 08:39 PM) QUOTE (BarredLabel @ Feb 1 2009, 05:42 PM) QUOTE (Zinite @ Feb 1 2009, 07:40 PM) Hookah has been gaining in popularity here in America since the 70's if I remember correctly. There's nothing I've seen that leads me to believe that the trend will decline any time soon. You haven't noticed more people quitting cigarettes since the 70's??.. Perhaps the same could go for hookah. I wasn't alive in the 70's, so no. Also, look at the poll thread that's big right now. You'll see a vast majority of us don't smoke cigarettes. You can hardly compare the trends. QUOTE (BarredLabel @ Feb 1 2009, 06:08 PM) http://smoking.ygoy.com/is-hookah-smoking-safe/ this quotes the article " A study done by the World Health Organization showed that one hookah session of a mere few hours can deliver as much smoke into your lungs as 100 cigarettes." Rediculous! This study has been passed over by us a hundred times. I've smoked 3 bowls today. That would put my comparable cigarette inhalation at over 500. If I were to smoke 500 cigarettes in one afternoon, I would probably die. Hookah smoke is without a doubt healthier than cigarette smoke. How much healthier is the issue. I believe people would quit cigs for the same reasons they would quit hookah. I completely agree with hookah being safer but the biast studies done by mumbling idiots says otherwise.... who's more trustworthy to the rest of the world.. you or World Health Organization? basically what I'm saying is i have a nasty feeling that more and more studies like that will be coming out the more popular hookah gets... it seems reasonable.. the more popular cigs got the more anti smoking ads we saw and the more people quit. Should hookah ever become the national smoking phenomena that cigs have become expect to see anti hookah ads just as you would cigs.... something like that wouldn't be great for the advancement of hookah.

QUOTE id have to read that report and also know who came up with it..because can you imagine if everyday atleast 100 people stopped smoking cigs and switched to hookahs? thats alot of money the cig companies would lose..but eiter way everyone has to use there best judgement..bottom line is smoking hookah healthy? no i woulndt say so..is it healthier then cigs..if i had to guess i would say yes but thats just my opinion..plus you only live once..so enjoy yourself in moderation so that you live long enough to keep enjoying whatever it is your doing..because anything can kill us..food poisoning, car accident, unknowin health issues.. I share your perspective entirely.. I wish the world did.

QUOTE (NIGHTS OF BAGHDAD @ Feb 1 2009, 07:47 PM) i think people just need to be more educated on hookahs and there ease of use..i myself stayed away from them because they looked complicated to enjoy..plus i know alot of people who look at them and assume they are used for the bad stuff..but long has there are friendly people out there to help educate, hookah cafes, and THIS FORUM AND ONLY THIS FORUM..the hookah experience can be relaxing, friendly, and fun.. Fair enough. I wish I could share hookah with the world.. but it's not so. I'm one of the biggest advocates for hookah education you'll ever meet. I'm one of those annoying guys that recites facts to explain how great hookah is to every person who seems only the slightest bit interested. However, ever since that bogus study claiming something ridiculous like one hookah was the same as a pack of cigarettes I've noticed people are more sketchy about it. I've even known a couple people who have tossed the hose down forever after reading that crap! wouldn't everyone agree that health awareness has risen since the dawn of man and will continue to rise? I'm sure some princeton review in the future holds some more completely bogus claims about the health risks of hookah and since people are more and more concerned with their health, perhaps it could lead to a decline ( or the herbal shisha increase).

  7. To Ice Or Not To Ice

Always use ice on my hookahs.. seems to help if the hookah gets a bit harsh from a b owl packing mistake. Plus (not that i've actually tested this) I've always thought the cool air helped to condense the smoke. As far as the ice lasting... my bowl stays cold for around 3 hours when i put ice in but like you guys said the ice usually melts off early.. maybe after 35 minutes. Anyone used dry ice? there's an open area under my base in my rotator and i fill it with dry ice (not IN the base, i know). It gets so cold on your throat your lungs contract on the inhale, it's ridiculous. I like the put my base in the freezer overnight with just enough water to be about 3/4" below where the downstem would sit. stays frozen for hours. Haven't noticed any flavour reduction but now that you mentioned it, I'll be sure to test it out
  8. Just looking for opinions. Personally I feel it'll reach it's peac within a year, remain constant and slowly become less popular. Seems like there's lots of people to introduce to hookah but more and more people are becoming scared of tobacco's dangers. Perhaps more development will be done for herbal shisha. Maybe even herbal shishas will be available which offer medical remedies using tried and true herbals. What do you guys think?
  9. Cold Weather

QUOTE (K1024 @ Feb 1 2009, 06:31 PM) if its windy that will make your coals hotter, and will cut on their life span. try using a wind guard though im not sure how helpful they really are. yeah the windcover definitely helps with the coal life but not the other symptoms.. thanks though
  10. Cold Weather

There is a relative humidity and an absolute humidity. The latter won't vary that much on a day to day basis. [/quote] I see... it's worth shot. thanks again
  11. Cold Weather

hmm.. are the humidity levels pretty stable there though? im not sure how stable it is here.. seems like it goes up and down a bit... but i'll definitely give it a shot thanks!
  12. So I'm a Floridian and cold weather isn't something we get too often here and it seems whenever I have a hookah outside in weather below 65 F the hookah gives me problems and is real finicky. I experience harshness, lack of flavor, finicky heat management (extremely finicky actually) and the coals burn out about 25 minutes faster. I'm using a 15-20 gram bowl, I pack in the circular method, only poke holes on the outside, 2 1.5" Exoticas, and use various shishas. can any of you snowbirds help me out here?
  13. Shisha Mold?

QUOTE (frost91 @ Sep 28 2008, 08:52 PM) pics dude pics don't have access to a camera at the moment, smokin' at a friends. I'll just go ahead and chief on the good looking bit
  14. In a 50G pouch of Al Amir there seems to be a decent amount of what appears to be mold. The substance is white in colour, creamy, seems to have little to no odor and is about the size of a quarter in diameter. Has anyone else seen anything like this? I'm planning on smoking the shisha that doesn't have any of this "cream" on it still. Ideas?
  15. Ancient Flavours

QUOTE (Bulldog_916 @ Sep 9 2008, 09:21 PM) Make sure you puff the ajamy. I learned recently that you really have to be careful that you dont take a full hit with it. Pull the smoke into your mouth, move it around, and then exhale. Dont take it in all the way. Longer hoses probably wont serve you well in this application either. Something like a 54 inch hose would be better because you have less distance to pull and you'll be less likely to take it into your lungs. If you look at some old pictures of men smoking tombeik style tobacco, they smoke with a long shaft attached to a short short hose. Remember, like a cigar, not like a glycerin shisha. definitely thanks for the warning!! ordered some from my local shop and should be here next week, I'll post up about my experience!
