1. Getting Bad

"Yet on one of the Sunday shows (on that liberal cable network) an analyst says that doesn't necessarily spell trouble for the US economy. How do they figure that?" Probably because precious metals are commodities. Like all commodities they are subject to speculation, hoarding, production shortages, and increasing demand (as new uses are found in high tech). Since we dropped the gold standard, gold and silver no longer serve as a critical market staple, such as petroleum. Gold can be three times higher and it still won't have a major impact on the vast majority of Americans. It's just not that important any longer, unless you happen to be a jeweler. You may have been watching the commercials warning you of a coming economic apocalypse and then helpfully telling you the smart thing to do is buy gold. Yes, those charitable people are so sure that GOLD is the only safe bet, that they are willing to trade you their precious GOLD for your soon to be obsolete dollars. Lucky thing they found you in time. Seriously, rising coffee prices would be more damaging to the economy than gold or silver - we all need a pot of that in the morning.

Teddy "Schwimmwagen" kennedy... pointy-hood-guy byrd. the list goes on, but I am out of witty names for them at the moment. Hey how about that fine democrat congress whats the president to have the right to seize any/all internet records from any company at the president's will, then make it a crime for anyone at that company to reveal that the government has seized anything, to anyone. Giving the gov't the right to snoop in any private network them deem "critical", any time they feel any desire to. Nice transparency from the administration. Wait didn't he PROMISE to be the most transparent admin ever? He is breaking a promise... again! That makes him a what???? you confuse republicans with conservatives, with tea party, with constitutional libertarians. Until you actually figure out what each of them are, and the policies they support, irrelevancy and an inability to make any sense whatsoever seems to permeate your statements in an astounding fashion. Personally, I don't fall into the "conservative" or republican niche at all. I am more of the far-end of a literal constitutionalists. Now, acolorado, my boulderite-friend, get to work, To avoid next years CG taxes, I sold a bunch of G.E (I have grown to hate them, and the fact they are in the pres's pocket anyway) I just bought myself a new 990 adventure S. I know I am going to fall off sometime, and once you go past that 40 age, things seem to get broken far too easy. I want my free 'bamacare to be paid-up, As a protest of the system, I am planning to fully utilize my freebies, after all it is my right to do so... you voted for it! You got some taxes to pay, get to it, son! (said with all possible friendly sarcastic tone... don't get your panties in a bunch again.) who is "they" and "many". I am seeing more weasel-worded propaganda statements. Must be poached from the DNC talking points website.
Of course when I say they and many I really mean you bud. And since even you can't keep straight what you support, I'm not feeling too bad about not understanding where you're coming from . Your claim that you're not a conservative is pretty funny though. Thanks for giving me a good laugh for today. In fact - I'll claim I'm not even a liberal - I'm a Constitutional Literalist too - except I actually know what it's called. And you may have a right to use all the freebies you always rail against - doesn't make you a criminal after all - but it does make you a hyp... hyp... oops think I need to sneeze. Btw I also liked where you call the Pres a liar - at the same time you throw out so many things that turn out to not be true. Maybe the experience just gives you a better eye for it. And since we're joking around in a friendly way - those weren't my panties in a twist - they were yo mama's! Man - I actually enjoy our little spats here. I probably need some therapy.
Bullshit. Obama hasn't done shit for the country. Economy is terrible, job market is terrible, he hasn't done anything except annoy me.
He has annoyed you - I will add that to the list of great things he's done . We could always elect some conservatives to put their economic policies back into place. You know - the ones that screwed the economy in the first place. They could spend like drunken sailors again, double our debt again, get us into some more wars, and lead us right into bankruptcy. Why that would make you happy I'm not sure, but to each their own.

Dang - the White House website has a whole page devoted to the tax cuts that Obama supported and continues to support here . He has stated publicly that he opposes raising taxes on the middle class on several occasions. You're here telling us something that's not true, and if you are really as informed about this as you would like us to believe, you know that. I guess that makes you... wait for it... wait... oh heck we all already know what you are. All I've heard is allowing the tax break to expire, which impacts mostly the wealthy. Which means if you're so dramatically against it, you must be very wealthy, right? So when are you buying the bar for us all? 'Rani
How is letting tax breaks expire vs raising taxes anything but semantics in the end? All it does is give him an excuse to hide from blame, and apparently it works. In the end, if he doesn't extend the tax cuts, they will go up for many people. Me included, and I'm by no means "rich." But my end tax liability goes up almost $1k (I think it was $944) a year.
The problem here is that when the Republicans controlled Congress and the White House they passed a massive tax break which lost the government 2 Trillion in revenue (the first ever in a time of war - 2 very expensive wars), created a new program which cost over a Trillion bucks, created several new government agencies (like Homeland Security), and failed to cut any spending to compensate. When they took office with the majority we had a 260 Billion dollar surplus. When they lost the majority we had nearly a trillion dollar deficit. They doubled the national debt while they held office, from 5 Trillion to 10 Trillion. We are STILL paying for most of their mistakes! The only way to resolve that problem is to raise some taxes and to cut some spending. Those who claim we could start to dig ourselves out of this hole by doing just one of those are simply wrong. Letting this massive give-away to the rich expire is a good start. Plus - are you quoting the "Obama's Budget" column or one of the other two - neither of which would be accurate? Because I very much doubt your liability is actually going up unless you're making over 250k a year.
  9.
State of war, and declaration of war are completely different conditions. Poached from one of the DA's legal volumes: War is not only an act, but a state or condition, for nations are said to be at war not only when their armies are engaged, so as to be in the very act of contention, but also when, they have any matter of controversy or dispute subsisting between them which they are determined to decide by the use of force, and have declared publicly, or by their acts, their determination so to decide it. I think the key part of the statement is "...state or condition, for nations are said to be at war not only when their armies are engaged, so as to be in the very act of contention..." I would take that to define a state of war to be as simple as any international disagreement. Not, as one would assume, a declared war by congress. Living with a lawyer has made me overly suspicious of specific language. In any case, it's an extension of the same logic that created the "public service" requirement for HS graduation that has been indoctrinating the mind numbed young masses. It's public slavery under another name. Get used to it. It's not going away in your lifetime. Anyone that thinks Canada wants them over their inability to stand up for their own rights, is not facing reality, they don't want your hypocritical, BS there. Elections have consequences. You vote for the people that don't want to keep score in sports, think red pens are too harsh, and we all need to work for the betterment of the collective, rather than themselves, and their family, this is what you get. Wake the hell up. quit believing the BS spewed by the agenda driven media, the teacher's unions, and assorted other dead-beats. Find out what the politicians are planning for your life, preferably before you put them in charge of your life... and Or don't. I really don't care. Oh, by the way, thanks for the free retirement, and healthcare you are paying. I got mine from this world, now you and your grandchildren need to get to work and pay my healthcare, and retirement costs. so get the hell away from the hookah, and get to work... because that is what you voted to do for me. (really, that is meant with all possible scarcasim. Don't take it wrong. My generation lived every benefit of this nation, but has completely screwed up the responsibilities that came with it. In the end, those of us that ended the "baby boom" have cost this nation, and all you younger people so much more than you will ever know. It is really a complete embarrassment. I vote we blame RANI for the whole mess.:774_smiley_getting_kicked_in_thLast election I thought they all sucked. Out of protest I voted for my cat as president. Unfortunately, "Just-Kat" lost. It's looking like he would have been a better choice.
You seem to have some trouble deciding what you really believe. First you claim that requiring public service in High school is akin to slavery, and then later complain that your generation screwed up all the responsibilities that come along with the benefits of living in this country. Then you say "Elections have consequences" in one paragraph and then tell us to "quit reciting the stupid one-line bumper sticker campaign slogans" in the next. The only good argument that appears anywhere in your post in your sig - "We leave in peace the people who start the fires and molest those who ring the alarm bell" That is the most accurate description of the conservative worldview you promote that I've ever seen. Some examples. They don't want to pay taxes and they want a very small government yet: - When crime is up because there's no money for an effective police force they complain. - When we can't patrol the border effectively because there is no money for it they complain. - They want the government to cut programs, just not the ones they use. God forbid you cut THEIR social security! - They think CEO's deserve their multi-million dollar salaries - plus bonuses - because that gives them incentive to work and those poor businesses couldn't attract qualified people if they paid less. But they think it's fine if teachers and cops make peanuts - as if that has nothing to do with the sad state of our schools and streets - and they seem to think government should have NO problem attracting good people willing to work for a pittance. - They vote for and support people who claim to be fiscally conservative - yet those people were the ones who started 2 very costly wars, put in place a new entitlement program costing over a TRILLION dollars (Medicare Plan D), and turned a 260 Billion dollar surplus into a 1.2 TRILLION dollar deficit while they controlled government. - They claim to care about rights - yet they never seem to mention that it's CONSERVATIVES who gave us Torture, warrantless wiretaps, and indefinite detention. They think it's a great idea to deport the children of illegal immigrants who were born here - which makes them citizens. They always refer to their religious rights - but don't want Muslims to share those rights. They want the government to have the power to spy on anyone at anytime without a court order, to hold someone without a trial forever, and to torture them in the process, or just to deport anyone they don't like - but they want us to believe they actually care about the rights of anyone but themselves and they want the government to have less power. Sure. - They jump up and down and throw a fit every time a liberal tells a fib and scream "Liar!!!!" - yet they bring every half-baked conservative conspiracy theory to the table and when it turns out to be a complete fabrication they say "well that's just the media's fault" or "just politics as usual" - or more often, they just bring us another total fantasy. -Many claim to be some kind of independent, but they never get upset when a conservative turns out to be corrupt, or tells a complete lie, or does something thing they claim to be against (like spending, or growing the government, or cheating on their wife even though they claim to believe in "family values"). That doesn't make someone an independent, it just makes them a dishonest partisan. -They claim some magical power to interpret the Constitution for all of us, but when the Constitution specifically forbids what they want, like religion in schools, or deporting American citizens (recent flap in Arizona) - they're the first ones who talk about changing it. -They claim to love this country - but then threaten to secede from it in the very next breathe because they can't have absolutely everything their way. They claim that anyone who criticizes a President they voted for is un-American or a terrorist sympathizer - but then every word out of their mouth is a criticism of the guy they voted against. They want to ban frivolous lawsuits, but then sue the government to release a birth certificate which is already public, or want to impeach a President for - well they don't have any reason they just want to do it. Conservatives are the experts at starting the fires then pointing the finger and molesting anyone who wants to put it out. Mostly they are just dishonest, hypocritical, or simply don't have a clue what they're talking about.

He's probably been working hard all these years and thinking to himself "Gee, at least because I'm paying my taxes someone who's better off doesn't have to. That just wouldn't be American. Thank God George Bush is saving us all from that Socialist nightmare.". Of course I might be wrong about that. He could be one of the Teabaggers who wants the government to "keep their hands off my Medicare" or complains about how unfair it is that we have to pay taxes while they're cashing their disability. Then again, maybe when he voted for George Bush and the other Republicans in 2004 he just didn't realize that someday we would have to pay off the TRILLIONS in debt they were racking up. I recall the last time I pointed that out our friend didn't even know how much they had spent, so maybe he just doesn't follow politics as closely as he would like us to believe.
  11. Voting is all about choosing the lesser of two evils.
  12. Strange that in every scenario I tried under $200,000 taxes were lowest under the "Obama's Budget" column. At 15k - taxes are still lower under the "Obama's Budget" column. So how exactly is Obama raising everyone's taxes when your own calculator shows something different? It looks like you're perhaps just a "mis-stater of facts" - I say that because I don't want the factual verbiage to ruffle your delicate feathers. Or maybe you should have actually tried this out before you posted it Champ.
trying to blame freddie and fannie on bush shows either a lack of understanding of just who was in control, and set their policies, or a severe case of bush derangement syndrome... maybe both. News flash for you-Bush is not president. If obambi wants to show how in control of the deficit he is, and prove it was all bush's spending, why is he spending at a rate destined to double the deficit in such a short time? The dem run congress wants to deem & pass the whole budget, because they don't want to have their vote recorded before the mid-terms. That says allot. Your argument that it's bush's fault is lame, old, and no longer holding water. What we have is an empty bank account, and one person bouncing the checks, then blaming the wife because she bounced the first one. Show me one thing the bumster decided to actually accept blame for? Even more, bush was a progressive, the bumster is a progressive. There is no difference between them beyond the fact the messiah is far less qualified for... well... anything. At least gw never gave the head of NASA a mandate to reach out to the Muslim Nations, to make them feel good about themselves. That has to be a plus. It seems anytime anything negative like the OP shows up about the saintly-anointed-one, some demotroll shows up, and starts blaming bush for anything they can. It was funny for a while.
Grow up man.

Bush had proposed to double the national debt, which had taken more than two centuries to accumulate, in one year, would you have approved?Well...Bush DID double the national debt....and I've yet to see Obama propose to do any such thing.
Wow. This is exactly why I love debating with Obama lovers. Bush did deficit spending for most of his time in office. That is true. Obama's LOWEST yearly deficit spending plan is more than the highest Bush year. You do realize that between the bailouts approved under the Obama watch, and the Recovery act, etc, etc....that FIRST year of deficit spending is about equal to ALL 8 years of Bush deficit spending. Obama year 1 = 8 years of Bush. If you didn't "see" Obama spending money, then maybe you can take your Obama blinders off. http://www.google.co...tart=20&ndsp=20
Most of the deficit is left over from Bush. Programs like the Bush tax cuts, Medicare plan D, and of course the two wars that were supposed to last in Dick Cheney's words six weeks. My link - as you can see that deficit isn't Obama's - and shame on those who are trying to blame it on him! It's kind of like the guy who just gambled away the rent and car payment yelling at his wife for spending what's left to buy the baby diapers and milk. I like the irony of your link - most of those charts clearly show how Bush entered office with a 260 Billion surplus and left it with a record deficit, and how that drove the national debt to historic highs. As I often remind "fiscal conservatives" - if you've done your homework and you're still voting Republican - you're not a fiscal conservative. If you really want us to carry a low deficit, just compare the Dem and Rep records using your own handy link. Plus - the bailouts of GM, Fannie and Freddie, and most of Wall Street, as well as the stimulus were all planned by Henry Paulson, who you should know (you being an informed political debater) - was the Treasury Secretary for Bush. Yeah darnit - Obama didn't plan the bailouts, and the first half happened on Bush's watch with Bush's approval. Obama approved the second half of the stimulus and that was the right thing to do - quite a few economists have pointed out it kept the Great Recession from turning into the Second Great Depression. Sad - but probably the only smart thing Bush did in his entire 8 years (the stimulus plan) is the one thing his supporters don't want to take credit for. This is why I love debating with Bush lovers - almost none of their claims turn out to be true .
  15. If...?

I'm sure none of the statements and insinuations from the first post are true. As others have pointed out most have been debunked repeatedly - quite a few are outright fabrications, others are serious exaggerations, and others rely on the old political trick of trying to blame your party's mistakes and failures on the next guy in office (most obviously the claims about the deficit - most of our deficit is left over from Bush). The real question is - Why would Obama's opponents resort to arguments so easily debunked and so blatantly untrue if they have legitimate things to criticize him about? Oh right - that question really answers itself .
