1. Congrats on the new baby, Molly! I too had a son, in December actually. Aren't they great? She was born in August. She's sailing through milestones at an alarming rate. At 4 months old, she decided she was tired of being immobile and rolled over Christmas Day. Three weeks later she decided she wanted to crawl. Two weeks ago she decided it would be fun to pull herself up to stand. Now, not only does she want to stand, she's starting to walk along the edge of the sofa. Kids aren't supposed to be figured out how to walk at 7 months! Wow, that's impressive! Our kid was holding his head up no problem straight outta the womb, so we think he'll be similar to yours! Yeah, she was doing that too. She is a petite thing though, just over 14 pounds now.

  4. I unwillingly quit. I miss it terribly I got pregnant. That meant no more smoking. We moved while I was preggo and the Robot said no smoking at the new house. Soooo I haven't smoked since December 2013. Ironically, I took my pregnancy test after a day of drinking and an evening with my hookah.
  5. So has anyone else in the area been here? Ham is hilarious! http://theoasishookahlounge.com/

    Michaellcp Is Banned...

From some of the information I know, I think a perma ban was too harsh. Unless there are other extenuating circumstances that I am not aware of, I don't think he should be permanently removed.
  7. Yay! Another girl! Welocme! Listen to what these guys have to offer as far as advice, they may have personal preference but will never steer you wrong. Secondly, try talking to a few of the vendors we have around here on HF- KasbahBazaar and NazarHookah. Both of these gentleman may be able to find something you are looking for and have both been more than willing to help out a fellow hookah smoker make decisions.

    Ok, I Just Gotta....

God, I'm so glad I said something to Chris about this jerk. It's not often that someone's flirting makes me uncomfortable- but what he said about a certain someone in our little TC world drew the line in the sand.

    R.i.p Jack Kevorkian

Medical ethics are a hot button issue. I spent my morning watching a patient actively trying to die today. To watch their suffering and their family suffering at not understanding that their gasping for air is not an attempt at survival, but the body shutting down is extremely difficult. Dr. K sought to ease the suffering of both the family and the patient. Don't judge until you've had to watch someone die- slowly over the course of hours, days or weeks.

I wish I lived closer so I could have made the trip and tried out the new flavors, not to mention getting to meet all of you in person and share some good times.
Agreeeeeeee!

    Health

Based on my previous research, there seems to be no real effective study on the effects of hookah smoking versus other smoked tobacco products in the US. Additionally, most of the research done on hookah has been generated by the American Lung Association and the World Health Association and have a definite bias outlook on the perceived risks. I'll tell you what I told my professor when I was presenting my paper on the Hookah Smoking Habits and Respiratory Health: If you're going to smoke a tobacco product, it appears that hookah is inherently safer. Just look at the smoke. Hookah smoke is white or translucent where others are grey and ashen because it's just that- ash. While at the moment there are no conclusive studies comparing the particulate composition of hookah smoke versus others, it would be a fascinating and important study to conduct. Now for my disclaimer: I am a health care profession. I am a Respiratory Therapist who smokes. Yes, I am biased on both sides. It's like Coyote said, smoking is bad for you, period. But in my opinion, hookah smoking is safer.

    Pennsylvania Pa Smokers

Has anyone heard anything about the place that is to be opening in Shippensburg? It was months ago that it was slated to open near campus.
  16. Hi everyone! I'm Molly, and I'm a respiratory therapist. I've been an occasional hookah smoker for the last 4 years (I own a beautiful blue Al Fakher) and I'm conducting a survey to get to know some of the social habits as well as the overall respiratory health of my fellow smokers. I promise my survey is not in ANY way trying to get you to quit, your health is your responsibility- I'll just take care of you when you get sick. So if you would kindly fill out my survey, it will help in my quest for answers. I would be more than happy to answer any questions you might have regarding my research or anything else you might want to know. Thanks! https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/9DBC2S8

    Hookah Survey

Thank you very much for the offer, but fortunately (for me), survey monkey does all of the math and cross tab for you so it's not a worry.

    Hookah Survey

Thank you to everyone who participated, my survey is now closed. I received 46 responses.

    Hookah Survey

Again thanks for all of the help in answering the survey. I need to find a bit more supporting articles on the Pro side of Hookah safety. I'm starting to feel like my paper is biased only because the information I have found thus far is from WHO and the American Lung Association regarding the medical aspect of things.

    Hookah Survey

That was less biased than I expected! Great questions. Now to turn the tables As a respiratory therapist, do you examine many people who smoke only hookah versus people who smoke only cigarettes? If so, is the health of their respiratory systems comparable? Did you notice any negative changes to your own respiratory system during your experiences with hookah?
I knew a respiratory therapist and they only deal with people with serious respiratory problems. They are not involved with normal health check ups. I would be surprised she has had a patient who was strictly a hookah smoker.
Oh, I know that people don't normally see respiratory therapists, but if the OP made a survey about the subject and went as far to say "I'll just take care of you when you get sick," it kind of wouldn't surprise me since she's supposedly a respiratory therapist suggesting we're going to get sick. But it looks like she's disappeared anyways
This makes me sad. I know plenty of smokers who haven't gotten sick and plenty of non-smokers ending up with COPD. If you think I'm a supposed respiratory therapist, that is your prerogative and I hold no ill-will against you. The medical community has done some seriously stupid things in the past for people to think that they would hope that people get sick.

    Hookah Survey

"Now to turn the tables As a respiratory therapist, do you examine many people who smoke only hookah versus people who smoke only cigarettes? If so, is the health of their respiratory systems comparable? Did you notice any negative changes to your own respiratory system during your experiences with hookah?" I do not live in an area where people smoke hookah regularly. There were hookah bars around here, but they closed due to disinterest. I'm conducting this survey in part to see the perceived health differences in hookah and cigarette smokers. In response to my own personal smoking, I am not a frequent smoker. My profs. put the fear in me of smoking but you know what, I don't really care what they think anymore. I've smoked more in the past two semesters to de-stress after a difficult day than anything. Regarding my "I'll just take care of you when you get sick" statement- it means just that. If you came to a medical facility in which I was employed, I wouldn't judge you or push you to quit. I would ask if you've tried to quit or if you're interested in cessation information but that would be because my job requires it. I'm a an oddity in the medical community where I do prefer more natural methods of medicine and even have gone so far as to say that I do not want intubated. I do apologize for my tardiness in replies, I thought the system would message me when I got responses. It seems I was mistaken. I really do appreciate the responses I am getting. Seeing that I am getting a lot of the same write-in response I fully intend to present it in my paper as a common notion. Anything else I can do for you guys?
