1. Hookah Bliss Is No More.
Now i'm even more upset that i haven't made it out there now that i have seen those pics. Look at all those happy people boosting the economy that the government just eliminated.
True that. I'm sorry I was never able to make it out that way and partake of the goodness known as Hookah Bliss.
  2. Diy Shisha Failures. Advice Wanted.
Hmmm. I just might try your herbal recipe. Do you have any suggestions for Tobacco? I've heard that using rolling tobacco makes for a yucky smoke. Is it true?
Yeah I've wondered that myself. Is Drum/American Spirit/etc rolling tobacco a good enough equivalent when going the DIY route?
  3. Hookafina...
I was just thinking if you empty the tobacco into that tall skinnyish can it would be harder to mix up with all the juices settling to the bottom just a thought
Yeah exactly, as cool as the can looks I'd almost just prefer dumping it in a wider tupperware container so as to mix it better...

  5. Lounge Music Idea

The Jukebox idea is good in theory only. You have to assume that most people have terrible taste in music. You should hear the requests we get. In fact, we have a sign behind the bar that says "Song Requests - $50". That's how we feel about that. I like the idea of like-minded people getting together to hear specific types of music. Maybe in a scenario like that, the jukebox idea would work. I've got to figure out what I should add to Mon and Wed to complete the gamut. Maybe poppy, indie-type stuff like Death Cab and The Shins. There's not much of a rockabilly scene here. Huge hardcore scene though, but I'll NEVER play that crap in my lounge, NEVER!!
Yeah, I agree that there are plenty of music requests that I wouldn't want to hear. I was thinking though that you would have a list of CDs or music on your ipod in your lounge collection and it's all on a couple sheets of paper that people could choose from. That way regardless of whatever they want to hear, it's something you'll want to hear too. Or maybe you could break up the list into genres, and people could only select songs from, say, the 80's hip hop section on a certain night. Just a thought.
  6. Chocomint

Coincidentally I'm smoking some right now, mixed with AF Orange. I've smoked it once by itself and it was a little too potent for my taste. It was good, just really strong. Cutting it with Orange mellows out the flavor and makes it much more enjoyable.
  7. Quotes To Live By....

  8.
How does a person halve a Coco Nara? They're thick....and dense
You need to master the knife hand chop.
  9. Throwing A Party Need Help

Check M.I.A's "Paper Planes" and "Bucky Done Gun". Good party joints, refreshingly different from the norm.
  10. Lounge Music Idea

great idea....but, you also have to think of the opposite side....if i saw a flier that said you were playing live rock music during that day of the week, i'd avoid the lounge that day. in fact, if i know what music you're playing in advanced...it may limit the days i go to your lounge. as for me, i prefer R&B or local hawaiian/reggae music....some hip hop too.
That's actually something we've thought about. I guess the question is, would doing something like that encourage more people to go to hear music they like, or would more people stay home to avoid hearing music they don't like? Right now, they have no idea what we're playing until they get there. Another advantage to my idea is it allows us to target slower nights with certain music and promotions to bring more business. Our format is not set in stone, but this roughly what it's like right now: Mon: Downtempo (trip hop, fusion, jazzy house, etc. - think Mark Farina) Tue: Hip Hop (NOT RAP! - older stuff like digable planets, tribe called quest, mos def, etc. REAL hip hop) Wed: Same as Monday Thu: Reggae (we have a drum circle that night as well) Fri: House (Not pumping club stuff, but chill, jazzy, funky house - think Miguel Migs) Sat: Drum & Bass (again, chill, liquid, atmospheric stuff - think LTJ Bukem) If you can't tell, my partners and I old party kids and are deeply into the electronic scene, albeit a much more mellow variety now we're older.
Yeah I like that format. I'd be fine with any any of those. Personally I'd have some specific preferences about other music I'd want to hear (jazz, older country/rockabilly [Johnny Cash, Gene Vincent], OLD school hip hop ([i.e. Sugarhill Gang] and all of DJ Shadow's Endtroducing & Preemptive Strike) and that's just me, but I'm definitely feeling the chill vibe you're going for. I second the suggestion for karaoke night. I'd go that night specifically for that purpose and rock some choice Grandmaster Flash. This may be too complicated, but one night you could let the customers choose the playlist. You'd offer a selection of albums that they can choose from. It's more of a jukebox scenario and having one of those would make it easier, but it's kinda nice to hear the joints you picked filling the place with your brand of freshness.
  11. Hookah Vs Cigz

Comparing hookah to cigs is like apples to oranges. You're not actually burning the tobacco in a hookah, unlike a cig.
Bingo! Compare the ash in an ashtry to the dry mu'assal in a spent bowl and then ask yourself where all the tobacco in the cig went.
Not to mention that most cigarette smokers do through at least half a pack a day if not more, whereas a hookah smoker might smoke only once a day.
The only problem with that theory is that even a pack a day probably has a lower amount of smoke volume wise compared to one bowl of hookah. The best way to describe the difference between cigs and hookah was the wine cooler to shot example someone else already said.
Oh okay I hear ya...I guess the point I was trying to make and as INCUBUSRATM said earlier was that, in my experience, the negative physical effects from cigarettes (even just one for me) are noticeably greater than those from a hookah session.

  14. Tea!

I usually just drink coffee. Not because it goes with any flavor in particular but basically because I'll drink several cups worth daily anyway...
