1. Flavor Enhancers

My first thought when reading the title of this thread was 'is someone thinking of adding E621 (M.S.G. - Mono Sodium Glutamate)! to get a more 'full flavor' out of their tobacco?' Before mixing any additive with your tobacco, I would definitely suggest doing some research on the safety of the particular chemical. I imagine some may produce toxic fumes (benzene, for example) when heated to hookah temps.
  2. Jack Fruit

Tangiers Jackfruit (Flavor #43) Hookah: Mya QT Bowl: Crown Micro Funnel v2 Screen/Foil: Diamond Heavy Duty aluminum foil Hose: Narbish v3 Coals: Coconara (flat) Base Liquid: Water, 14oz (414ml) Preparation: 3 hours of acclimation @ 26°C ~40% R.H. Packed as tight as possible to where it springs back to ~2mm below the outer rim. Coal Configuration: 3 halves evenly spaced on the the outer rim. Appearance: Medium-fine cut (texture is a little more coarse than other Tangiers batches I have tried), juicy but not dripping. Dark, natural color. Smell: Ripe jackfruit Taste: Ripe jackfruit Clouds: Dense Buzz: Mild Duration: 2-4 hours Overall Rating: A (95/100) Comment: I love this flavor. I have had fresh jackfruit and this flavor really captures the taste! It is like a tart-banana tropical 'Melon Blend.' I recommend this flavor to everyone who loves tropical fruits or is at least open to acquiring a taste for this distinct flavor. It's a flavor that will grow on you. I will definitely get this again.
  3. Tangiers Question.
I make it flush with the edge of the center spire. Your center spire should be just SLIGHTLY lower than your outer rim. You can pack it tightly to the top edge of the center spire, or do the foil test where your palm presses down the tobacco to just underneath the outer rim. I do the first option, because that keeps the underside of the foil clean and I'm just OCD like that (If you do the foil test, don't bother taking the foil off and wiping it off, just pull the foil back tight once you're sure it's packed well enough). Either way, you want the bowl packed as tightly as it comes new in the package, but you want it just a TAD bit below the outer rim.
My center spire is slightly sloped. Is 3.5mm below the outer rim on one side, 4mm on the opposite. 1. For the foil test, should the tobacco be pressed down so that is level in the bowl? 2. When you pack it in, do you mean so tight that it 'springs back' like a sponge (i.e. as tight as possible)?

  5. I Need Some Advice
Sounds like they did a bait and switch on you.
Exactly, makes one wonder what else they are capable of doing.
  6. Tangiers Question.

The Micro is the only bowl I pack the crap out of because it's such a small area and a lot of glass around it heating up.
Do you mean you smash it in there to the point the juices start to squeeze out of the tobacco? Also, how full do you pack it?
Stuff it! As much as the bowl will hold, and push it down hard several times.
Smash it in all the way up to the outer rim, center spire, or what? How much is too much? Should juices be dripping down the center and around the outer rim (visible once the foil is removed)?
  7. I Need Some Advice

Even though they didn't make any promises about your requests being 'ok', that sort of jacking around sounds fishy. Makes me wonder about their management. If you are unhappy with the terms, work them out now before signing the contract. Even if you think the job is 'a perfect match'.. being jacked around in the beginning and 'submitting' to their terms out of desperation will likely lead to more problems and bad feelings later. I think your requests are reasonable. Do you know how they allocate the tips? are all the tips during your working hours divided among all employees of that shift? If so, 6pm-2am would probably be the best period for tips (but also the busiest)

  10. Tangiers Question.

  11.
Went with this.
I would love to see your research. What was your thesis, What brands of tobacco did you use, What instrumentation and bookmarks did you use to measure your testing, and your results. Or did you mean Google research? You can believe what you want, and I am sure I will not sway your mind. But any HS Freshman Biology student wouldn't get a passing grade on the report the Mayo Clinic put out. Simple Facts: Cigarettes burns and destroys tobacco, shisha cooks the tobacco not destroys it and burns off glycerin, honey, molasses. I have all my tobacco still left after a session. While a cigarette tobacco is ash on the floor. I am not saying smoking isn't healthy, I am saying it's not as harmful as cigarettes. As far as Proof, I am only interesting in dispelling the falsehoods. For More Factual Reports, here http://www.harmreduc.../content/5/1/19 http://yurukov.net/b...o_ili_cigarite/ http://www.hookahfor...g-really-tired/ The Forum Post will supply you with research I am sure you have never seen. And some anecdotal evidence. I am 30, Had a complete physical for life insurance 6 months ago. Despite disclosing that I smoke hookah 2+ Hours every day, my lungs are as healthy as they should be, nicotine levels were on par with eating dinner the night before in a smoking section of a restaurant. I just need to drop a few pounds and that's it. I have the normal non smoking rate for my life insurance.

Very nicely put!
  12. It seems they have already developed a decent-sized ego in their med schooling... they did *re*search... probably by looking at various documents on some special "credible" database system they have access to. Did they actually do anything beyond looking at a computer screen? What evidence do they have? Do they automatically trust whatever sources they have access to at their school just because they are deemed 'credible'? Have they ever smoked a cigarette and hookah to have first hand experience comparing the two? I would bet the WHO documents, etc are among the 'scientific research' they are referring to. I find it funny that they say you don't have 'proof... They brush aside your extensive experience with hookah since your name isn't on their list of 'credible sources'... I would bet a chest x-ray showing clean, healthy lungs wouldn't even affect their position... because that would mean they would need to disagree with their 'credible source' *gods* . They would probably just make excuses to maintain their status quo. I personally wouldn't waste my energy arguing with people that are not into finding the truth and make attacks like 'yellow journalism.' If they are open at all to the truth, then it would have to start with them being able to question their sources... and then doing their own honest experiments... like smoking hookah for 1 hr (set up by you to ensure it is done properly), then smoking 200 cigarettes over the course of 1 hr to compare.
  13. Among the flavors I have tried, My current favorites for Tangiers NOIR (which I will keep repurchasing): Strawberry-Kiwi Maraschino Cherry Koke (I almost always smoke 3 parts Koke with 1 part cherry -- a great combo) Kashmir Guava Cane Mint Melon Blend
  14.
Hmmm...Now that's interesting. What would you say about Static starlight? Does that somehow resemble soy sauce in anyway? Man! I bet the Kashmir guava would smell nothing like soy sauce! I was really avoiding opening it since the weather is highly humid right now, but this makes me want to open it and see how that turns out. Would you recommend opening the noir in highly humid conditions?
I haven't had Static Starlight yet, so I haven't smelled it. Opening tangiers in humid conditions should not be an issue. I open/acclimate my tobacco in 29C, 70% humidity (or >90% on a rainy day) quite often. The main thing is that the tobacco should be smoked when the humidity of the air is equal to (or less than) that in which it was acclimated... When I used to get little flavour and harsh wispy smoke (or harsh thick flavourless clouds when I increased the heat), I thought it was acclimation or packing technique... and after many bad sessions I found out I was focusing too much on heating the tobacco from the top rather than focusing on heating the bowl and 'simmering it.' I was cooking/charring the tobacco on the top and effectively 'sealing' the bowl.. Smelling my Kashmir Guava noir out of the bag... no resemblance of soysauce whatsoever.... smells amazing... time to get some acclimating
  15.
Well in India we don't have any coconut coals and importing from US is expensive. I am using smoker's coal...they are naturals and last me 45-50 minutes, and even though I have not used coconaras, I believe the coals I am using don't burn as hot compared to them. But the problem is, how can I make it work when the tobacco is not smelling right? Isn't Indian summer supposed to smell like some dark floral? and SS like grape, lemon and rose?
I haven't smelled Indian Summer Lucid, but smelling my Indian Summer (mixed fruit #5) NOIR -- it smells along the lines of rose lemon and cherry with a hint of spice ('dark floral' as you said would be a good description.) It has 'tartness' to it. I just smelled a bottle of soysauce and I can say that the tartness along with the 'dark' in the Indian Summer reminds me a bit of the soysauce.
