I am currently reading "The Mughal World" by Abraham Eraly and I came across this quote. The author was making the point that in the 16th and 17th century there was no sense of nationalism in what is now India.. He further states "The people had no loyalty to there rulers, and the rulers had no regard for their subjects, the people were prey, the rulers were predators." Whats different in America today?Only that the people have no loyalty to their rulers. We are still prey, they are still predators. However adroit use of modern media has allowed the predators to create a false image of the rulers as heirs to the "noble values" of the founding fathers and to channel the minds of the masses away from the great thefts taking place thru the use of division, racism and hatred. We are more worried about an invasion of Muslim backed and trained Mexican communist hordes(Glenn Beck's analogy, not mine) that the fact that our banks and investment houses are nothing more than dispensers of chips for use in the great casino called Wall st. Wouldn't it be nice to go to Vegas with someone elses money. Wouldn't it be nice even to lose that money and have the government give it back to you as bailout, while you, the original owner of that capital gets left out. The Arab world is waking up, it seems that citizens of Great Britain are waking up, can America be far behind? Or are we going to contniue to believe the lies of Beck,Limbaugh, and Republicans and immerse ourselves in the hatred and racism and patiently await the imminent return of the baby Jesus, bearing his sword to establish the kingdom of god.Thats as unrealistic as Muslim martyrdom fantasies.
I lived in Japan in the 60's, learned the language fairly well and credit those wonderful people with easing my transition from 2 years of combat, physical and mental wounds than accompany that. I look today in horror at the devestation that has become northern Japan. Tears fall from my eyes, prayers from my lips. But I notice there is no large arena filled with forgotten poor, there is no looting, there is no part of the nation refusing to accomodate the homeless. No,this not Katrina, actually it is far worse, but food is getting to people as is medical aid and the army. Even U.S. troops. the amazing thing is U.S.troops got to aid victims in Japan quicker than they did in Katrina. Plus the Japanese had a plan, everyone rehearsed it,they built for it and thousands and thousands of lives were saved by this preparation. Imagine this haMFening on the California coast. America would be paralyzed, we have no plan. Asa Katrina proved FEMA is a joke and I doubt if we learned anything either. What with massive budget cuts in domestic programs, there may well be nothing left of FEMA. Ah but foreign aid flows and weapons systems are delivered overseas. Sad
Once again conservative activists were successful in embarrassing the liberal establishment. This time,it was NPR,just when it was hit by budget cuts(art and culture not being particularly and interest of our dear frineds on the right) They even succeeded in using the "Islamic" factor. Previously, you might remember the scam the laid on Acorn,by posing as prostitutes. What amazes me is the agenda these people have. It aMFears to be a fully declared war. The radio talk show hosts attack Obama relentlessly, they and people like Rep. Peter King (R-NY) are stirring up the total war on Islam that seems to be part of right wing agenda. They inflitrate liberal bastions like NPR and Acorn with impunity, making them look like fools. My problem however is not with them, its with the left, the liberals, the democrats, etc, who are clueless as to what is haMFening. Where is the DNC? How can the left survive in 2012 if they don't get aggressive. Why can't they infiltrate a Tea Party meeting to expose racist agendas? I do not welcome people legislating morality, expanding the growth of an underclass and killing all forms of social welfare in this country. We are goiong to be tent cities bigger than anything we've seen. In 1932, 17,000 WW I vets and their families camped out in DC demanding the redeeming of bonus certificates not due to mature until 1945. These people were suffering the depression and severe unemployment. President Hoover ordered Gen Douglas Mac Arthur to use the army to clear out these veterans, They were labeled leftists, communists and marxist just like the union employees in Wisconsin. While right wing dictatorships seem to be losing popularity in the world, here in America we are growing our own.
The main focus for many right wing politicians,Tea party types and some Republicans is beginning to emerge. It seems, what with all the major budget cuts in domestic spending being put forward by the right, that they intend to hold the economy hostage until 2012. Then they can pin economic woes on Obama. Making Obama a one term president is the major goal of these strategists. Now Rep Peter King has begun a MacCarthy like investigation aaimed at Muslim Americans. Since the Muslim American community has been very helpful in providing tips on terror plots to authorities,it might not be a good idea to stereotype these people and engender a fear in of government. Not unless your goal is show Obama as being weak on terrorism. Expect the 2012 campaign to focus on the economy and on Islam. Expect more than the usual amount of racist propaganda coming from the far right. Your e mail boxes will once again be filled with cartoonsd of Obama and his wife portrayed as chimpanzees, Muslims,Fried Chicken and watermelon addicts once again.
I have been thinking about this option, weighing its merits and its drawbacks. In the course of my musings I did a little research. First off our military does not suMFort it. Makes you wonder? Who does suMFort it? Well Wolfowitz rose from the grave to suMFort it. And he knmows lots about the military, being the chief architect of the Iraq debacle. Other hawks and conservatives, including John McCain are pushing for it. Well, what is a no fly zone? Sounds simple but it ain"t. You need to keep an air umbrella aloft at all hours. Thats alot of planes to cover Libya's 1100 mile coast, and thats saying nothning of the interior. You have to take out all the air defenses,SAM sites etc with surgical air strikes. One forgets that the no fly zones put up by Bush after the 1st gulf war were comparatively easier since we had already destroyed Saddam's air force and air efense umbrella. We flew with impunity. Not so in Libya. Libya has maybe 200 Mig and Sukhoi aircraft, of which maybe half have been grounded or destroyed since the rebellion began. She also has maybe 150 various soviet SAM batteries. Taking out those and destroying air assets on the ground would be acts of war and create large casualties. Then we would have to jam there radar meaning more planes aloft. Fighters, bombers, AWACs'electronic warfare aircraft etc. Thats alot of planes. There is one aircraft carrier on station and that is very little considering what is needed. Italian airbases run by the US and Nato could be used as they were when Clinton imposed a no fly zone over Bosnia. Do we have the air assets to do this? And still provide needed air cover in Afghanistan and protection in Iraq and the gulf oil areas? Maybe thats why the military is reluctant.
It is sad to listen to the rhetoric of America's political parties as they dismantle what once was a very great nation. To listen to the talk of liberty, freedom, patriotism echoing from the lips of well paid popular marionettes, and watch what is going in the Arab world is the high point of hypocrisy. Those very freedoms our talk show host say we must defend are being eroded under our very eyes. Bulwarks of the American social system, which made us great, are under attack everywhere. Social security, unemployment insurance, healthcare, collective bargaining are all targets in the sights of the few wealthy power brokers that have stolen this nation from the people.
India is presently bargaining with a few manufacturers to buy new fighter jets. America could use the jobs, but India says there are too many controling strings attached to the Boeing deal. Most of world, aghast at the recent collapse of our monetary system clamor for a new world currency to replace the dollar. Many nations see China as an alternative to America as a world leader. Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey just slammed America and the UN for resorting again to the century old option of sanctions on Libya. He stresses how sanctions can easily be overcome by a regime with money and how sanctions only hurt the poor. Think of all the children that died in Iraq in the 90's due to sanctions that prohibited imports of medicines, while Saddam had no problem obtaining his Viagra.
We sic a computer virus on Iran's nuclear reactor in Bushir in cooperation with our prime partner in crime, the right wing fascist government of Israel, knowing full well that messing with the computer that controls the reactor could cause Chernobyl like consequences.
Meanwhile the obese American public wallow in their sofas, intent upon Charlie Sheen's latest meltdown, Lindsay Lohan's most recent run in with the law. Bieber's haircut,Kardashian's tits, and the latest bowl game. Our news is culled from stations with political agendas and is more like the news of Pravda from the 1960's.
Popular radio and TV personality Glenn Beck predicts forthcoming doom, rising prices, food shortages, fiscal collapse. For once Beck maybe right. But he wants us to believe that we must sacrifice these things to preserve freedom, when in reality we must sacrifice these things to insure the super wealthy access to our own security and bank accounts.
Most of you here in the Hookah Forum are young, intelligent and well educated, but like youth everywhere, your primary focus is on the present. How many of you think of retirement? Just like I did most of my life,I thought it would go on forever. Are there jobs waiting for you after college? Those of you that work, do you think what life be like if your social security and unemployment insurance were taken from you? In a global competitive market your skills compete with highly qualified Indian engineer, who works for far less than you. Corporate America talks of freedom, liberty, patriotism and our founding fathers, but when it comes down to the balance sheet, your job goes to India. And we all cheer, wave the flag, and sing "Oh say can you see" It doesn't make a difference whether youre a democrat, republican, tea party, libertarian, socialist, communist, whatever. Those entities don't exist. Obama,Mr Hope and Change is living proof. Goldman Sachs runs the Treasury dept. Halliburton runs Energy,Boeing and Lockheed run defense, Israel runs State and they want to do away with the Education dept. No matter who runs for elected office, they are bought and paid for by the special interests.
The real patriots, real democracy, true liberty echos from the voices in Tahrir square and the Pearl roundabout. While the oMFressed rise up and demand justice the suMFosed bulwark of democracy stands relatively silent. The Arab spring has all but made Osama and al Qaeda irrelevant. Do we rejoice? Of course not, we need the wars to keep our economy going.
American people are beginning to take the streets, maybe its infectious. Maybe we will join our Arab brothers in an attack against tyranny, Will the government use force, rubber bullets and tear gas. Those of you my age will remember the Chicago convention and Kent State.
Lots of people see Libya degenerating into civil war, because there is no other recognized leader or group about. Qaddafi saw to that. Now I am not Libyan, never quite got there(was refused entry in1973 at Ghadames on the Tunisian border because I had no visa and some Tuareg said they could get me in)so perhaps my solution is not grounded on reality.
However there is a crown prince, heir to the throne of King Idris, deposed in 69 by old Qaddafi himself. His name is Sayyid Muhammad ar Rida as Sennusi. He would be set us as a constitutional monarch with a legislature of two houses. The uMFer house to consist of deputies elected by the individual tribes and urban towns, say 1 or 2 to each entity and a popularly elected lower house similar to the House of Representitves in the USA. Might work
Anyway here are prince Muhammads thoughts on the current affairs in his nation:The return of monarchy to Libya is not a priority, but "the United Nations – which endorsed the Libyan constitution upon independence – must interfere and restore the constitution, to hold free elections and let the people decide what system they prefer." '"The Libyan people have now chosen to challenge this regime peacefully until it is gone from Libya, and the people will not return to their homes until justice is delivered… [they] have raised their voices in Benghazi and Tripoli and all other cities across Libya. They have made the whole world listen to them… His [Gadaffi's] fight to stay in power will not last long, because of the desire for freedom by the Libyan people. This great popular revolution will be victorious in the end, because of the unity of the Libyan people."
(1) Muammar Qaddafi, (2) Mo'ammar Gadhafi, (3) Muammar Kaddafi, (4) Muammar Qadhafi, (5) Moammar El Kadhafi, (6) Muammar Gadafi, (7) Mu'ammar al-Qadafi, (8) Moamer El Kazzafi, (9) Moamar al-Gaddafi, (10) Mu'ammar Al Qathafi, (11) Muammar Al Qathafi, (12) Mo'ammar el-Gadhafi, (13) Moamar El Kadhafi, (14) Muammar al-Qadhafi, (15) Mu'ammar al-Qadhdhafi, (16) Mu'ammar Qadafi, (17) Moamar Gaddafi, (18) Mu'ammar Qadhdhafi, (19) Muammar Khaddafi, (20) Muammar al-Khaddafi, (21) Mu'amar al-Kadafi, (22) Muammar Ghaddafy, (23) Muammar Ghadafi, (24) Muammar Ghaddafi, (25) Muamar Kaddafi, (26) Muammar Quathafi, (27) Muammar Gheddafi, (28) Muamar Al-Kaddafi, (29) Moammar Khadafy, (30) Moammar Qudhafi, (31) Mu'ammar al-Qaddafi, (32) Mulazim Awwal Mu'ammar Muhammad Abu Minyar al-Qadhafi.
I'd be off the wall mad too,if no one could spell my name right. But,last time I check the crazy Colonel perfers Moammar El-Gadhafi. Really old boy when ya get booted out you gotta check out this Sarah Palin chick, ya'll would make beautiful music together.
What with most of the Arab world clamoring for democracy, you would think the suMFosed world's leader of democracy would stand up and give full suMFort to the brave people. We are engaged in conflict with different groups in that area,we have altered our understanding of what democracy means to suit our needs. Democracy is the peoples freedom of choice regarding the make up of their government. To America, democracy means the same thing it meant to Mubarak, Ben Ali, Qaddafi and the rest, the freedom to choose what we want you to do. Its sad that we have a fascist government in Israel, our prime partner in the region. What a little give from the Israelis and suMFort from America would do to change the pattern in the Middle East. During this whole chain of revolutions, we have heard nothing from al Qaeda. They are as puzzled as we are. People are rejecting one man, one party rule and that would include not only Mubarak, but bin Laden and Mullah Omar. We are unbendable in our status quo, unbendable in our suMFort for the Israeli right. There are forces in Israel that represent peace. Again Obama stands at the very threshold of greatness without a clue. Soon we will find ourselves thrown out of the Middle East. As China and India continue to demand more oil, the Arab nations, those new democracies could very well afford not to sell the hypocritcal "democracy" and starve us out of region. America is no longer ruled by the people,by intelligence or by common sense, only by selfish lobbies, there vision dimmed by the blinders of status quo.
Accolades to the Democratic state senators for walking out on the vote for a bill that would cut teachers benefits and curtail union representation.Hopefully this grassroots awareness will spread. AMFarently there is suMFort for their efforts in New York. Under the banner of budget cuts, the rich now want to attack the security of the middle class. They have railed about the evils of social security, union health care, collective bargaining and what the right calls entitlements. So while we allow the tax cuts for the rich to continue,we strive to abolish such foundations as social security, unemployment insurance and the right to negotiate salaries. And the masses of America, the very people who benefit from these programs cheer wildly. In New Jersey, Gov. Christie, and here in my state of Virginia,Gov. McDonnell are doing all they can to slash education budgets.I guess Fox news is all the education we need. Perhaps we can privatize education and let Fox have an education channel to teach us creationism and white supremacy. Even the "savior" of 2008, Barak Obama has allowed budget cuts to effect heating subsidies and Pell grants. So next winter while the poor freeze to death, the rich, with their tax cut millions get to head to Palm Beach to celebrate yet another big win in the battle to fleece the American middle class of their money. How long can America stand silent and idle?
Buried on CNN.com behind stories of Kim Kardashian and Justin Bieber and other world shaking news was the obituary of the middle class and the birth of what the article called an underclass. It pretty much followed my 15 February blog entry but provided a factual basis for my theories. Rather than digest the article for you, you can access it here CNN Money
Now for all you raging conservatives and republicans its not about pro life, traditional marriage, gays in the military, Christian values, an African American president or any of the other so called buzz issues that suMFosedly unite the conservative base. While your leaders are getting you angry about these issues, they have their greedy little hands in your pocket and are robbing you blind. They better start taking away your guns because when you find out that your "patriotic" self has been riMFed off by the very "patriots" you worship, you are going to be pissed. Very Pissed.
I am reading a wonderful book by Christopher Ondaatje about East African explorations in the 19th century. Livingstone,Stanley, Burton,Speke,Baker and the quest for the source of the Nile. One is continually bombarded by statements crediting one or another white man with the "discovery" of some geological wonder or piece of land. I guess Blacks in Africa couldn't see Mt Kilamanjaro or Lake Victoria, or perhaps their eyes didn't count. Although I have English,Slavic and Turkish blood in my veins, I am also a member of the Western Cherokee Nation thru my father's family. I was taught that Columbus discovered America in 1492 for Ferdinand and Isabella of Spain. I reckon us Cherokees must have thought we were still in Russia on the other side of the Bering straits. Back in 1970,I was travelling to Africa to spend some time in the Sahara and hang out with some Tuareg types. To get to Morocco,my first African nation, the plane landed in Madrid, Espana and I had to wait for a Royal Air Maroc flight to Marrakesh. I was ready. I went outside the main terminal and found a garden, where I planted a very small Cherokee flag and claimed Spain,by the grace of the Great Spirit for the Western Cherokee. Why then is Juan Carlos king of Spain and not me?
I was born in 1945,grew up in the fifties,America's golden age. There jobs for everyone, women could stay home and raise the family and all we had to worry about was the Soviet Union. If you didn't have a college education, you get a job in factory with union wages and health care. Layoffs were rare, but there was always unemployment. The company had a pension plan and there was social security. Those factory jobs have vanished overseas, pension plans were raided by Wall st gangsters when the housing bubble burst. Did you really think that money disaMFeared? The conservatives have been railing against entitlements for years. If they had privatized social security,it too would have "disaMFeared" in 2008. Now we have to cut the budget, and Obama, a democrat and community organizer is slashing monies from programs designed to help the poor heat their homes and cutting Pell grant college monies. He even said today that the entitlements need to be looked at. I worry, because i am one of those people that Limbaugh and Beck call freeloaders. Makes no difference that I paid into social security for over 40 years, makes no difference that i get free healthcare from the VA because I bled in a place called Vietnam. I am a freeloader, a non producer, a member of the underclass. Now that some democrats have been bought out by the corporate thieves, we can expect to see unemployment insurance shrink and disaMFear and the rest of safety net set up by democrats evaporate. All the while, the very people to whom this would cause great peril are cheering wildly and parroting the words of Limbaugh,Beck and Fox news. In less than 50 years,if things don't change, there will be no middle class in America. The redistribution of the wealth of the American middle class to the the Wall st thugs will complete. After all the treasury dept has been by Goldman Sachs for two administrations. The greedy forget one fact, Americans have guns, and when the economy gets like Egypt's and food is too expensive and jobs are gone their will be riots in the streets
Do they really think we are that dumb? Mrs. Obama says ole Barry doesn't dye his hair. Now just the other day the Concubine and I were discussing how gray hes' gotten and then on to the usual discussion of how the office of president visibly ages one rapidly. Now,its all black, but not dye. Grecian formula maybe, spray paint,Afro Sheen deluxe? Same with Reagan,297 years old and not one gray. Then there was Clinton, didn't inhale my ass. And Monica, need we say more about Slick Willie.George Bush was mostly all lies, so you tend to remember the few truths he told instead. The point is Democratic,Republican,Tea Party,Green party etc. will all say the same thing. This comes down from the Asshole in Charge of Image, who is probably David Axelrod, anyway its a cabinet post. Its all about how you aMFear, its a world of sound bites and photo ops that take up so much of the president's time, you wonder how he gets anything done. Now maybe there is segment of the American public that spends their entire waking hours eating Doritos and drinking Busch beer,so the only input they get is thru the tube and their really not sure whether the news about the White House and West Wing reruns aren't the same animal. Back to my deer stew
You should read this guy's resume. One of the CIA's finest assets,Omar was primarily responsible for the rendition program, first in the Clinton administration and then later, refining it for Bush and Co. Egypt was the most popular destination for kidnaMFed terrorists and kidnaMFed innocents. It was in Egypt that the torture took place, that george Tenet denied haMFened. And sometimes the torturer was old Omar himself. Now thats hands on.After 2000,Omar began to encroach on the foreign ministry, came out of the shadows, allowed himself to be photographed and became number 2 man in Egypt. In all likelyhood,if Mubarak's son,Gamal succeeded him, he would have been under Omar's thumb.
So this is the man we propose take over the new democratic Egypt. If we look at what haMFened in Iran in 79,it is possible to say that lack of suMFort from the western democracies, was, at least in part, a reason for Ayatollah Khomeini's success in hijacking the revolution. If Omar succeed, its business as usual in Egypt,if the demonstrators in Tahrir square reject him, then they reject America and what it offers. In other words we give them no options Secret police or fundamentalist theocracy. The Muslim Brotherhood at this point is not sufficiently radicalized, nor sufficiently popular to hijack a revolution. But if we try to push the head of the secret police on these people, we show them how little we care for them and their demands. Then, thanks to our own hapless "diplomacy" we push yet another ally over to the side of al Qaeda. Nice going,Barack and Hillary.
And where, pray tell is Ayman al Zawahiri? He has yet to surface with any comment on whats haMFening in his own country. Bet your ass, he's trying to get out of Pakistan and go back home.Wow,just what we need, a powerful figure, like Khomeini to rise and hijack the revolution.
America is responding to crisis like a punch drunk over the hill prize fighter, lashing out blindly at his oMFonent. Anyone remember Chuck Wepner, the Bayonne Bleeder?
Is that over the top? Maybe, but both Dick Cheney and Sarah Palin(finally found Egypt on the map) said that basically Mubarak is a nice guy and that all the freedom and liberty rhetoric coming from Tahrir square was just window dressing.(Just like it is from the mouths of Palin,Cheney and Beck) These guys love authoritarian tyranny, you can impose your morals on everyone. As for any one even thinking of using the word Muslim, that immediately puts them into the terrorist classification.
Another interesting note ,George W Bush canceled his trip to Switzerland because of security concerns( Swiss Jihadist Liberation Army??) No, the Swiss were considering arresting him for human rights violations in Guantanamo and elsewhere. Hmmm more freedom and liberty.
Some Egyptians have jokingly sSPAM!!!ested that Saudi Arabia build a nice little town for all the dictators sent packing. That's where Tunisia,s Ben Ali went and Mubarak might go. Seems like George and Dick might enjoy bingo and shuffleboard(no quail hunting!) with people of like minds. Idi Amin's old house is available.
And a warning to the "we try to please everyone" Obama administration, who still can't quite cut the ties to ole Mr Stability,Mubarak. if gets the boot, don't, I repeat don't even think of giving him asylum in America. If Jimmy Carter hadn't let the Shah of Iran(ole Mr freedom and democracy) into the US for cancer treatment, the students in Tehran would not have attacked the US embassy and taken hostages.
Oh yeah and it seems Ronald Reagan has been declared a God. Always liked those old Roman touches.
From what little information is leaking out of Egypt since they started beating up journalists,it seems that American diplomats are closeted with Mubarak, trying to find a solution. I had suspected that the "I'll leave in September and won't run in the elections" was an idea floated by some American style thinking. Then there was, "I'd really like to go, but I'm afraid my country will fall into chaos" Hmm look out the window,Hosni. There was all the Interior dept. denial of thSPAM!!!ery even when people found police ID cards among the "loyal Mubarak suMForters" The cries for the joys of stability echoing Obama and Netanyahu. Now I hear US diplomats and the Egyptian government are going to try to get Mubarak to leave and pass the baton to Omar Suleiman, as in General Omar Suleiman, former secret policeman. The Egyptian people are not that dumb. They won't buy it for a minute. All we are doing is wasting time and lives to get a solution that fits into the American/Israeli mold of what the Middle East should be. What's haMFening is the Middle East has decided on self determination, not compromise with those that exploit their economy, degrade their faith and show no respect for their culture. It won't work. Why doesn't someone in Washington know that or,perhaps, why isn't Washington not listening to those that know. Because they have lived this policy for thirty years and don't have any answers they like. Well the Egyptian people are aMFarently not as dumb as Washington thinks the American people are. Here is America we have a right wing that is dedicated to siphoning off the last of the the middle class wealth, while the middle class cheers them on, cowed by fears of hordes of Mexicans and Muslims crossing our borders. The left, well you know, that hope and change thing. People of liberal persuasion bought that one, hook, line and sinker, only to find out that Obama had sold the presidency of the United States to Goldman Sachs.
What about suMFort for the Egyptian demands? What about walking the walk, instead of throwing around the rhetoric of democracy. Someone once said,America stoMFed being a democracy years ago,its just that the people don't know yet. Thank you Fox news, thank you CNN. I am really really interested in Justin whathisface and Kardashian's breasts..thats news. And where is that great political pundit, Sarah Palin? Still trying to find Egypt on the map, or straining with binoculars into the vast expanse hoping to see pyramids from her back porch. One day we will find out why Obama sold out and became an empty suit, meanwhile Egypt suffers and we haMFily sSPAM!!!est the former secret police chief to head the government. Why not gamble with the people. America's reputation in the Islamic world is at an all time low, policies have failed. As Islam fights an internal battle on how to move their faith into the 21st century, we can only sSPAM!!!est going back to the 19th, a time of subservience and colonial exploitation. If we back the people, and, yes, The Muslim Brotherhood, not only in Egypt, but Yemen,Jordan, Sudan and elsewhere,it might change the opinion out there on that much discussed "Arab Street"
Then there's the oil situation. If this kind of revolution spreads to Saudi Arabia whats going to haMFen to oil prices? We need some brilliant thinkers out there, not the same old tired noise we have been listening to for years.
Last night and this morning crowds of Mubarak suMForters aMFeared out of nowhere with knives and clubs and banners reading "30 years of stability" Where did these goons come from? The streets were filled with protesters, now we have all these Mubarak suMForters.$17 dollars a day is the pay for a Mubarak suMForter and quite a few of them forgot to leave their secret police ID cards at home. Stability is their by word. Funny the only people talking stability before last night were Obama and Netanyahu. Now Egypt should be glad they have stability. But no bread. I don't know how a piece of stability tastes diMFed into a bowl of Ful Mudammas, but then they probably only have bowls of stability now.
This "solution" stinks worse than rotten camel meat. It looks like it was concocted up by Mubarak,Obama, and Netanyahu. It solves problems..really Look at the brilliance
Mubarak gets 6 more months for him and his cronies to steal everything they can of Egypt's wealth and stick it in Swiss bank accounts.
Netanyahu gets 6 months for Mossad to make sure Mubarak's successor plays an israeli tune. and
Obama gets to say he brought democracy to Egypt and the corporations that run America get to sell more arms to both sides.
Oh, hey weren't their a few Egyptian people in Tahrir square wanting jobs and bread? Or was that my imagination?
And Obama is trying really hard to get of those internet kill switches his buddy Mubarak has, after all the hoards of American unemployed might forget to turn on Fox news some night and realize that the money for new jobs actually goes into the pockets of the executives at Goldman Sachs.
Today America lost what ever credibility she had in the Islamic world. Osama and al Qaeda just got another recruitment stimulus better than the one Bush gave them when he invaded Iraq with lies. All the rhetoric says its not a war against Islam, but it looks more like it every day.
There are biblical implications here, too There's a hell of a lot folks who believe that the wonderful book we call the Bible, filled with wisdom about how to lead a good life is really a history book, science book and daily horoscope rolled into one.
Muslims,Jews,Christians all worship the same God. Each group has convinced itself God only loves them alone. That must make God sad.
I see once again the United States is taking a safe and secure position in regards to events unfolding in Egypt. Just as America did with the revolution in Tunisia and the election protests in Iran earlier. We squak about democracy but when it raises its head, we dare not take a brave position of suMFort, but hide behind the comfort of status quo. Protesters in Egypt need to hear America suMFort. Loud and strong. Otherwise America loses more ground until in the near future America and Israel will look to the world much like pre Mandela South Africa did. Pariah states. Egyptians probably don't like Americans that much. Egypt is the number 2 recipient of foreign aid dollars(after Israel) We like Mubarak,he doesnt confront Israel,he keeps moderate Islamists like the Muslim Brotherhood underground. So what if his people are repressed and hungry,if the privatization and small government clique in Washington have their way, we'll all be hungry and repressed. But even the liberals, who are suMFosed to suMFort this kind of thing, shy away fro it like the plague. Obama's famous Cairo speech was just like everything Obama says, rhetoric.Somebody commenting on Obama's State of the Union speech echoed the old hamburger joint commercial "Where's the beef" That about covers everything this administration does, empty rhetoric. Still, where would we be with the other guys, teaching history and science from the bible, learning to hate Muslims,Hispanics and Blacks and making evangelical Christianity the State religion.
After reading numerous analyses of President Obama's "State of the Union" message, I am beginning to view the American political process as a battle by two rival gangs to acquire turf. Turf being the symbols of power,ownership giving control. The Constitution is waved about,hallowed heros eulogized,slogans like patriot,liberty etc are tossed around. Truth is you got the Jets and Sharks,Crips and Bloods,Angel's and Pagan's,democrats and republicans, take your choice , the winner gets to tell you what HE thinks the constitution is all about. Bush and Obama have invaded some pretty sacred turf in the realm of our personal liberty. Just like Jesus returning to earth and looking at today's Christianity;
Washington,Franklin, and Jefferson would recognize little of their creations. Whoever wins, we get the same song, and when the carcass of what was once a great nation lays in decay, they'll all move somewhere else and eat another nation.
I am presently reading "The Highly Civilized Man...Richard Burton and the Victorian World" The book presents Sir Richard in different light than most biographies written of him. The author, Dane Kennedy, sees Burton as an observer and a critic in this age of proto globalisation. Burton finds, in his research of peoples, that other societies can and do find solutions to life problems as relevant or more relevant than standard British Victorian judgement. However, Burton still carried with him the baggage of British racism, which we in America have borrowed and expanded. A quote stands out here:
" 'Race' is the sort of word most often used to signify the imperial effort to rank and sort peoples".
