Hello fellow hookah smokers!

The nice thing about where I work is that we have this little Middle Eastern "supermarket" store close to us that's actually got TONS of authentic hookahs, lots of shisha brands and flavours just behind the counters, and REALLY cool Middle Eastern foods, pastries, and other items that literally made me feel like I could look out of the window and see a street that's somewhere in Turkey or Israel. I felt really out of place with a coat and a red nose from the cold in that store .... that's how cool it is over in Canada. Oh how I LOVE the (below) freezing weather! Ahaha, not :S

Anyway, I'm super excited to say that I've picked up what I consider a "classic" flavour and a flavour I've never tried before in the store. What I mean by "classic" flavour is that it's one of the first ones I've tried, and it reminds me of just when I began smoking the hookah with the friend that introduced me to them. It's the Al Fakher brand of two apples, and it takes me right back to some of the earliest, most "classic" memories of smoking it with a little bit of vodka or beer (my favourites were coolers - still are) with a group of close friends in the summer. I've got some good times smoking these things. The other flavour that I've never tried (and that I was REALLY hoping I'd be able to at some point sooner or later) is the Lewis Marie brand of banana flavoured shisha. Yes, I’m quite the “girly” flavour enthusiast. I can’t wait to try it later!

    12:11 am, Saturday

Just finished smoking a bowl of the banana stuff! And I really, really liked it. Couldn't say I loved it, but it definitely was really great. The BEST part of it was smelling it once it had been smoked. It honestly smelled like candy.

Our furnace is broken here at home, so we have a fireplace going. I keep hearing my parents walking around upstairs, checking the main fireplace, so it sketched me out a bit. I have never seen them up this late so energetic before, and I kept waiting for a parental unit to walk downstairs and discover that I was smoking a hookah in the bathtub! It affected my session, and not in a good way. But hey, the bowl was actually pretty great, so other than trying to keep the noise down and a slightly pounding heart, it wasn't a bad session. My dad caught me once, and he figured it out pretty quickly. My bathroom smelled like rose-scented charcoal smoke, and I swear I don't magically walk out of a bathroom leaving it smelling like that on a regular basis. HUGE tipoff right there, but so long as neither of us told my mother, he was cool with it. Again, he was a smoker (he recently quit cigarettes. YAY! Cigarette smoke definitely does NOT smell nearly as good as hookah smoke does) so I'm sure he understood the whole "why" behind smoking to begin with. He's never smoked a hookah, and I've never smoked cigarettes, and I'm sure they're really different, but there's gotta be some sort of mutual understanding between people who smoke .... even though one is completely different from the other. For those who smoke both - obviously they're both different, but in which ways are they the same? Different?

I LOVE this blogging option. Gonna keep updating. In the meantime, I literally need sleep more than I can verbalize. I have been getting pretty much none for the last two nights, so I'll update later! Write soon!

Holy s*** people, I'm f***ing retarded. I just had a conversation with my buddy who enlightened me on the actual working of a hookah. Shows how little I know and how much I smoke instead :P

Turns out...coloured smoke has already been around!!

A f***ing smoke machine can be adapted for coloured smoke using a mixture of glycerol, water, and food dye. It's completely safe to inhale because people use smoke machines at gatherings all the time.

Also...charcoal is not the way to go. Once again, charcoal only provides heat to vaporize the shisha/tobacco. The white smoke from it is the vaporized shisha/tobacco.

If the glycerol, water, food dye mix can be properly added to the tobacco in the right amounts...you could pull color from the tobacco!!!

I don't have the resources to test this but if anyone wants to take some spare time, and take proper safety precaution, just in case, this could work!!

  4. Introducing the new Mya Saray Bevel Bowl. Now, when I first got this thing I was trying to figure out what they were making next to screw onto the top of the bowl. Then I was informed the grooves were to hold the foil in place. Well, now thats clever I though, lets see if it works with say, an underpacked bowl. First though, a brief description.

As you can see, its a little taller, a bit wider, a lot flatter on the bottom, and the holes are spread out more as compared to one of my well used standard burners. Aesthetically (look that one up if you have to ;) ) it is pleasing to the eye with some nice lines that would go well with any modern or traditional Hookah.

You don't really have to do anything different when packing this burner, I mean, I put the tobacco in, I place the foil on top, pull it tight, and then rotate the bowl and pulled down foil in my hand to seal it down as with any other bowl. Only this time the foil is set into the side grooves. This is supposed to keep the foil from flexing and sagging. I know I hate it when MY foil sags, but that's for another blog.

The real question is, did it work. Yup, it worked. I packed this sucker with Tangiers (yes you can smoke Tangiers in a standard bowl, that was covered long ago in another post) about 2/3 full and then set the foil. After an Hour and a half session I pulled the burner, dumped the ash and as you can see in the bottom picture, the foil is still tight. No need for "mods" or screens to keep the foil off the tobacco.

So, is it worth the $6 on myahookah.com. Yup.

  5. Ok, so im trying to figure out where all this bad karma is coming from(i know, not the traditional Hindu sense of it, im not in the mood for semantics). i know i lived a wild life before. I was a prick and all, i did my share of bad living. But wtf i get it I've had e-fucking-nough. I've changed my life so much. I quit pot years ago. In highschool i was a womanizer you could say since i just wanted sex and no more. I am not proud of how all i lived but i changed. Now, i treat who im with the best and am searching for true love and a life partner, but i get used, abused, and fucked over. I've become a selfless person, always putting others ahead of myself and some take advantage of that. If i didn't have so many bills, honestly most of the money i make would go into random acts of kindness, and i still manage to maintain paying it forward like picking up someone's tab at the drive thru...but anyway...my back is fucked and will never be the same but will get better with my PT, never 100%. my ankle got screwed up a few months ago and is still size of baseball. My other leg i screwed up a week ago, bad sprained to tendons and ligaments around knee and calf(lots of pain now and im weak with a limp, hurts to stand or walk more than 20 mins plus hurts back). i also got diagnosed carpal tunnel both hands this past year. Irritable bowel issues im starting to question. Depression that was starting to get better but is back. Panic attacks/ Generalized Anxiety Disorder getting worse. And now that i turned 26 a few days ago i lost my health insurance and can't afford my own. Continuous woman woes when i just want someone to love and be loved, while being compatible and whatnot. My birthday was ruined for me for unnamed reasons and he didn't intend to and did it unknowingly. Next day im doing better after bday lunch with cousin and grandparents andthat got ruined when camp president personally attacked me for no reason, he apologized to camp but not me. Icing on the cake: tonight, my friendship with a kid that i lived with in college who is like a brother to me ended, as well as shit blowing up with other friend's mom over this and she was out of line, i will not return to there. He is begging for me back now but fuck this shit im done bending over and taking it raw unlubed. O and while this allcwent on i donated 13 inches of hair to charity(and i feel naked and hate short hair). i 100% do not believe in Christianity and never will because of my personal experiences, studies or religion and history, and common sense. I have been a proud pagan for 12 years(o btw i lost my beloved pentacle this past week that i only took off a few times in last 12 years) and fully believe it in my eclectic path that also adapts some shamanism, animism,Hinduism, budism, Judaism, and much more but roots in Wicca. But at this point with all of the crap, i don't know. Im losing faith in humanity, but im near the point of being atheist. Why does this all happen to me, why?!?! . listen to R.E.M.- Losing My Religion, as im about to(maybe im off because i don't know the lyrics in dept yet), but i am losing my faith in humanity and in general. Im thankfully for the good friends and family i do have, and therapy and the med:all of this gets me by day to day. If you notice me being more cynical and maniacal, understand why(like all of gradeschool being bullied and beaten up). but at the least, i won't let this bring me down(well outside of depression), i will still strive to be the best person i can(like giving my only drink for a long drive to a homeless guy at a traffic light last month), to be selfless, to be a decent citizen of the planet even thoughbthats a dying breed. If you need anything, im here for you, i always try to put others before myself. Thanks for reading, i just needed to get this off my chest. Now im going to put on some Infected Mushroom, meditate, and get some much needed sleep if the.pain will let me. Goodnight hookahforum, see you tomorrow.

  6. Yesterday, I smoked my brand new KM Tri Metal hookah, with a set of coals that I condemned many years ago: insta-light coals. Nakhla 50mm tablets to be precies. Why? you might ask. Well let us say that sometimes, you start liking something which you hated in the past. Or in this case, misused in the past.
So there I stood (yes I was standing in the garden under the carport, too lazy to get a gardenchair) with a big vortexbow ful of Nakhla Fruit Molasses and two tablets on top. I was bewilderd! Seems those little bSPAM!!!ers don't have such a huge inpact on the taste after all. How come? I asked myself. The awnser was pretty obvious: I was too impatient in the past and put the coals, which were still igniting, in the foil. Which gave the rest of the smoking session a nasty taste of blackpowder.

I smoked that session like a King.

This is my first hookah, a 3 foot tall, white mosaic Starbuzz hookah. I just got a job at a hookah shop about a month ago and have always enjoyed smoking. I am very excited to taste all of the shisha that we have and decide which ones are my favorites and which ones blend well together. I'm also looking forward to giving customers quality service through first hand experience. I have had my hookah for about a week now and it has been very enjoyable. The first flavor that I tried was Starbuzz 'Pirates Cave', I have since picked up many other flavors.
The flavor that I have been smoking tonight is Fantasia's 'Purple Haze'. First of all Fantasia's shisha is driMFing in flavor syrup, you can smell the shisha right when you open the box. A pungent syrupy grape smell followed by a slight mint. At first the grape could be mistaken with children's cold medicine. The smoke has a heavy purple grape taste with that tiny slight bit a mint at the very end. I have a feeling this flavor would pair well with a glass of my favorite red wine 'Royal Bitch'. Its a sweet red wine, not too dry. When I think think grape with mint this is what I imagine it would taste like.
I like the convenient little zip lock bag my 50 grams of 'Purple Haze' came in. Its definitely the messiest shisha I have had to deal with yet, but the strong flavor is definitely worth it. I think of royalty and colors like royal blue or royal purple when I smoke this flavor. I am still very new to this and another reason I am keeping a log is to watch as my palate changes along the way. I always love to journal about coffee tastings and different restaurants I have been to, so I figured why not start one for my smoke? my long term goal is to blend my own unique flavors.
Feeling a little restless tonight so I was considering packing another bowl before I try to go to sleep. I have a small 50 gram container of the Paraoh's 'Sex on the Beach', it was the cheapest closest thing to coconut the shop had at the time and I have been craving pineaMFle as well so I thought I would give it a shot. It's far messier than the fantasia. Its a light sweet flavor, a great tropical combination. I noticed that this one is made with molasses. I wasn't paying too much attention to the fantasia, but I am very interested in figuring out what the differences in sugars and syrups are. I feel like such a blubbering newb, but I know I'll figure it all out.

Most people think that globalization is perhaps an economic trend, where corporations float around the world, finding the cheapest labor, the lowest taxes and the least restrictions. Some think the term means the encroaching of "western" civilization on traditional mores. For others it has religious connotations,or maybe it means it globalization of communications.(Timbuktu has cell phone service,Oriskany,Virginia does not,LOL) Globalization is all those things, but there is one more consideration. The globalization of change. These past few years have seen demonstrations for change haMFening all over the world, so much of it fueled by social media. While the goals of each of these respective movements is national, there seems to be thread that runs thru all of them. Dissatisfaction with the status quo system that is gobbling up the wealth of the poor and middle classes.exploiting and polluting the environment, waging wars to control resources, enslaving people and making profit the true god of the beginning of the 21st century.
I recall the hope we had in the 60's,the anti war and peace movement, the movement to a more sustainable lifestyle and the growing spirituality that captured many of us. (Yes, I am an old hiMFie and Vietnam vet). Those movements were marginalized by oMFression and greed, but they have a certain resonance with today.
I figure, that it won't be long before a majority of people in the world realize that their goals are in common, whether at Liberty Park in New York, Elmwood Park in Roanoke,Tahrir square in Cairo,Homs,Benghazi,London,Paris,Moscow and anywhere the majority is being exploited by the few. This is going to be some ride!

I should have started this when I had an abundance of Shisha.

Today I'm smoking Rose and pretty much, It's an OK smoke.
I love the exquisite taste that left me surprised and the smell that left my room smelling great.
It's a very smooth smoke but would not smoke by itself. It would be great mixed with something, maybe clove?

    My opinion: 5/10

Here it is my favorite time of year; smoking hookah outside, friends, family, barbecues and fresh produce. My only wish is that it was a little longer. I love the season all four but summer has always been my favorite. The years here increase and the summers grow shorter. As a child summer seamed endless, as a young adult action packed, now as mature father seams it just gets started and its time to think school, and winter coats.......snow shovels, and holidays and before you know it the cycle repeats. Is time moving faster? Or am I just racing through time?

  8. So here's the deal. My husband and I had cut down a tree 3 years ago, and we were burning the stump. It took quite some time in order to get the stump burned all the way down to the desired level. My neighbors knew we were burning the stump. We were very careful to take the necessary precautions when burning it (digging a bole around the stump, and maintaining a very low fire). I went off to work while my husband maintained the burn. Since the fire had burned down to coals, he went in the house to grab a beer and some marshmallows for roasting because he figured he'd take the time to chill out while he was finishing his project. He heard a big diesel engine outside, and he went to investigate. Guess what?? The neighbors called the fire department.

Now here's a background on my neighbors. They had been finding ways to harass us as soon as we moved into our home three years ago. They called the city to report our lawn as "not being green enough" and for it being more than "6" long). They wrote us a nasty letter telling us that we should move to an apartment because we "clearly don't know how to own a house" and "that's where we belong". Since the, we installed Zoyzia grass to replace the craMFy grass we already had. The home we bought was a HUD home and it needed a lot of work on the inside. While we were working on the house, we had to remove a whole lot of crap, As we removed all of the crap, the neighbor called the city because we were removing it, and we were waiting until the weekend to haul it away. We thought she decided to bury the hatchet because she gave us a tile saw that her husband was no longer using. Her husband had been doing tile projects in his house, and since they finished, they had no use for it. A week later, the fire department was called. Luckilly, the fire department was very reasonable, and they asked my husband if he was having a cook out, and that the fire would be legal if he was. My husband said he was. The funny thing was that my other neighbor (whose really cool) came across the street and said "What? The neighbors are still harassing you guys? just so the fire deparment could hear him say it. With that, the fire department left us alone, and my husband added more wood to the fire just to piss off the neighbors. But the interesting thing was that the neighbors were outside when the fire department came. They were inside before the fire dept showed up.

I kept thinking to myself "What the hell is this woman's problem?" My husband and I keep to ourselves, we aren't loud, and we are friendly. We talk to the rest of our neighbors, and are friends with them. We maintain our yard, and have a lot of beautiful flowers. I talked to my friend about the situation, and she thinks the neighbor might be racist and have a problem with interracial relationships. I've spoken to them before all of the trouble started and they seemed like nice people. I'm thinking the neighbor's wife is one of those kinds of people who like to pretend to be nice and then case trouble just so she can pretend to be nice again. The sad thing is that I bought that house, so I'm stuck with it until I can fix it. I love my neighborhood, I just hate this woman and wish she would hurry up and die. She's not really old (mid to late 40s), and it seems like she's trying to compete with us. Every new thing we add to our yard, she does something similar. I have come to two conclusions throughout this ordeal:
    1. she might be an unhaMFy woman who is probably going through menopause, and has to find something to control.
    2. People in the US who say "love is blind" are full of shit. Love is only blind if you and your partner are of the same race, and same religion as long as the religion is in a familiar vein of Christianity.

So i've done some testing with both the vortex bowl and the funnel bowl. Seemed like the vortex bowl kept the juices in the bowl and smoked longer than a funnel bowl. What do you guys think? Have you tried any of those bowls yet?

A lot of it depends on your budget.

B/c I'm all about senses when it comes to my place for guests. Things are usually aesthetically pleasing and there are various smells that blend from place to place.

    There are a few options:

-essential oils (in a spray bottle since you can't use candles)
    - Yankee Candle Air spray (they have a new one that is suMFosed to neutralize odors and give a "clean" sent)
    - Reed Diffusers (wood wick brand in my opinion or walmart brand works fine too)

    * as a side note walmart carries "sprays" that give off a scent but the spray bottles suck. So my advice is get a spray bottle for 50 cents and then pour in the different fragrances you want to mix. Few sprays near the ceiling or on a fabric and you're in business.

When I first started smoking, I thought wow. hookah is great. I can finally smoke something that taste great, keeps me relaxed, and keeps me social with my friend. Boy did I know there's so much more to smoking hookah. Everything makes a difference. The pipes, the coals, the shisha, the flavors, even the water makes a difference. In the future I hope to write some articles on all this stuff at my site Hookah Lounge Reviews.

Mister Obama it has been a year since you won the presidency and we have yet to once see you smoking hookah on the Truman Balcony.

And if there was ever a president to make my Pipe dream smoking on the truman balcony a reality it is this President.

I thought day one I would see President Obama take out the shisha and Hookah pipe. If I had just won the Presidency, a Hookah pipe would be on the second floor balcony as soon as the parade was over; that night at least I can assure you. I couldn't wait a year like Obama has. I mean look at this balcony and how it begs to have a hookah pipe smoking.

I imagined the press writing about the inspiration for Obamas Hookah doctrine. The president would respond in detail in between hits of the Hookah pipe about the hookah pipe chill doctrine. Then Obama would invite the press to smoke the Hookah pipe with him. As the press sat down the President would reach for his Ipod and play the Bossa Nova playlist. Cats would purr at dogs; lions and lambs would protect each other and Rahm Emanuel and Rush Limbaugh would decide its time to hug.

I Imagined world leaders sitting on the Truman balcony, smoking StarBuzz Blue mist or the Hypnosis Tobacco Mintchocolate chip. I imagined the picture of Obama reaching for his Tongs as Israel and Palestine walked the first steps to peace; agreeing that StarBuzz Pink is not just for girls.

The hookah pipe doctrine of Chill. A doctrine of taking a second to smoke and think before speaking. A doctrine of sharing and preparing for yourself and for others the best flavor Tobacco and the best flavors of life. The Hookah doctrine of the new and relaxed America. The confident America.

President Obama I know you're not saying that you look at the Truman balcony at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave, Washington D.C. and don't think, "damn I want to smoke a hookah there."

And, President Obama you have hinted yourself that America needs to chill out. Start the hookah pipe chill of America. Mr president smoke
hookah pipe while looking out at the Washington Monument from the Truman balcony.

There is no denying that after a hard day that a grape/mint hookah, Maybe an AMFle Cinnamon hookah, would not at least be relieving stress. And a little less stress is the change I'm looking for.

To read the history of the Truman balcony visit the White house Museum website. http://www.whitehousemuseum.org/floor2/truman-balcony.htm

    By Guest,

    Starbuzz Tangerine Dream

    Setup: 26" Traditional Hookah
Bowl: Tangier's Medium Phunnel with Scali mod

    Hose: Nammor and Custom washable
Screen/Foil: Heavy Reynolds tiny holes around

Liquid In base: Water and Ice
    Coal: 4 Coconara's

Cut: kinda stemmy but overall typical starbuzz.

Smell: STRONG tangerine smell. Very Orange Sunkist like.

Taste: Very good, like it smells. But with more heat, it is way too strong.

Smoke Thickness: This is where it's bad. I've read other reviews for this particular flavor that boast "HUGE Clouds" or "Rich white clouds". I got mediocre at best! Starbuzz usually does pretty well...one of the best...but this one didn't produce much. I'd say medium. Tried many combination of coals. Started with 4 on the big bowl, quickly droMFed to 3, then to 2...smoke and flavor overload went down...increased to 4 after they burned down a bit, and the flavor was on point, but the smoke was nothing special. Kind of a let down for the norm.

Buzz: Very much. I don't usually get too buzzed from starbuzz...just a little. This one had me feeling almost drunk. It's almost unlike a normal buzz and more of a dizziness. This could be because of the attempt at getting big clouds and trying to manage the heat.

Duration: 30 minutes? I gave up on it.

OVERALL: If you love orange/tangerine flavors, you will probably enjoy this. However, I loved the smell and was very excited to smoke it. I recommend trying it in a smaller size if possible. I got lucky and tried it because I found the 50g tin. I've never seen that from Starbuzz and I don't know why it took them til now to let people try more flavors without committing to a 250g or a 100g and spending half a pay check. Since this one seemed difficult to manage the heat to get a good combination of smoke/flavor, I'll try it again with an egyptian bowl or in the phunnel again with added glycerine (with or without the scali mod).

I know I may come off as "disrespectful" to those who may be older and reading this. If there are any people in their 50s who are reading this, please hear me out.

I have noticed that no matter what generation of older people there is, there are always some who are always saying there is something "wrong" with the next generation. They always say the younger generation has no (fill in the blank). I have had older people talk down to me for no aMFarent reason, but they want me to respect them. If my memory serves me correct, you have to give respect to get respect. Therefore, if an older person is behaving condescending, arrogant or stupid, then regardless of their age, they are entitled to get what's coming to them.

They never, ever offer any solutions to the problem and
in a lot of cases, they are very condescending when they talk to younger
people. It's the same as a person telling someone they need a new jacket. I can bet the person in need already knows they need a new jacket, but they don't have any money to get it. The person who is stating something very obvious never ever offers any solution to the problem, nor do they offer any help. The person speaking to the one in need just takes it upon themselves to state the obvious. THAT type of behaviour is what's wrong with everybody. The older generation was never about attempting to fix the problem. They just pass it down to the younger generation. The younger generation is expected to fix whatever problem that was inherited to them, plus deal with their own problems. It doesn't help when the older generation is expecting the younger generation to take care of the elders when the elders haven't equiped the younger generation to do so. It's the same as an older relative leaving a whole bunch of bills and debt behind, and expecting the younger generation to fix their mess. The younger generation has to feed, house, and clothe themselves, and the older generation is too busy hating, and cussing out the younger generation because they FAILED to prepare the young for what lies ahead.

Another thing that bothers me about some older people is that as soon as they reach that "age of wisdom" (whatever that age is), they automatically assume they are wise, and intelligent. Nobody can tell them what to do because they have "lived, and seen it all". They act like they don't have to learn anymore because they have reached this "all knowing state". Unfortunately, this mentality is destructive, and doesn't allow a person to continue growing. People learn and grow for as long as they are living. If a person stops growing, they allow themselves to become short sighted and narrow minded. The sad thing is that a lot of older people aren't willing to see that this behaviour is adding another nail to the coffin of a dead future.

If old people would actually extend a hand, try to see past their age, and realize they know damn well they used to be young , dumb, and only cared about what was going on back when they were growing up, then they can actually make a difference with the next generation. If they take off their blinders, and actually SPEAK TO the next generations instead of speaking AT them, then things can really change. THEY are the problem because THEY are the ones who are suMFosed to be teaching the youth. All they did is talk down to, belittle, and chastise the young, and now they want to be all disgruntled and angry because the youth won't listen. I don't care how old somebody is; nobody wants to listen to a person who is always cussing them out, calling them dumb and talking down to them. I don't want to listen to that, so why should somebody else expect me to. That's common sense.

Anyway, if the elders would extend a hand, and actually talk TO the youth instead of talking at them, then maybe, we will listen, and it might be for the better. Until then, the saga will continue to get worse and worse.

While on vacation to see my family, I left my hookah at my apartment, forgetting to pour out the water. When I returned and tried to put it back in the box, the stem broke off. My friend cemented it back on for me to fix it. Now, recently after moving, my hookah, somehow re-broke. Any sSPAM!!!estions how I can fix it? The local hookah shops will only sell whole hookahs and not just a stem. Is there any way to fix my hookah without needing to buy a new one? Please...any sSPAM!!!estions help and are very aMFreciated!!
